Lil Kim spent almost a decade in the West (schooling in Switzerland) so he can't help but understand the difference in power levels between our two countries. Unless China is secretly prodding him, he won't shoot first.

We will definitely not shoot first, we have nothing to gain from it and much to lose. I believe Trump realizes Kim is just a saber-rattler and is only matching his rattling (as opposed to trying to placate him). Also, he's simply not going to kowtow to such a lesser power.

It's a smart idea to buff up Guam since Kim specifically threatened it, but if you are really serious you don't publicly declare your first strike.

Who actually wants a war? War should be reserved for when there is no other choice.

I have a gut feeling this might be like a Syria situation in which it happens unexpectedly. But I feel something will happen relatively soon.

The appeasement policy of the last 7 decades worked so well for prior administrations, I don't know why we don't keep doing the same thing

I don't exactly want war, but I do think that the North Korea problem is only going to keep manifesting until it's 10x's worse. I think the earlier to handle it the better.

Exactly how is this determined?

If we or our allies are attacked, for example.

Perhaps, but I also think he is crazy enough to launch a nuke if he is backed into a corner with no other way out but to go to hell and take as many other people with him as he can. Especially if something internal starts to happen and he has nothing left to lose.

When it comes to NK we SHOULD NOT be reactive but proactive.

I'm hoping China finally decides they've had enough and decide to take it upon themselves to conduct a coup that removes Kim. China can install their own puppet government there.

Why? They've been rattling their sabers for years. It's what totalitarian nations do to try to gain respect when they have no others means to get it.

It would be suicide for them to attack us.

I have no idea why we have spent so much time destabilizing the middle east, but have allowed the North Korean regime to endure for so long

What is Kim's motivation for making threats? Financial and food aid for his people? Notoriety? Significance on the world stage?

Or is this an attempt to sabotage South Korea's winter Olympics?

This is the question to be asked. Unfortunately, too many power players make all of their money from wartimes.

Lil Kim does not seem to be the most balanced of statesmen, hence taking the Guam threats seriously.

This is an a-hole who executes officers with artillery if they fall asleep in meetings for God's sake.

I'm not suggesting that we attack them bc they're talking shite; I'm highly recommending that we blow the frick out of them WHEN it's confirmed they have the capability to hit the continental US with a nuke.

Taking a threat to Guam seriously doesn't necessarily mean going to war.

Sounds like par for the course for dictators. Saddam had similar things and yet without evidence for WMDs, most people think invasion/attacking was a mistake.

I hope that's not the only qualification that you have to go to war. Russia could hit us, too, but we aren't about to invade or send a nuke their way just because of that.
