A religious whack, ey?!?! How about if those government schools teach things that are contrary to your beliefs and values!?!?! Let those kids be indoctrinated by the government, much better to be government whacks than religious whacks. Yeap, clear as mud!

The German government provides state-supported religious instruction. The parents can supplement it at home.

The idea that they are being persecuted is nonsense. They have state-supported Christian churches and state-supported religious education in public schools. Conservatives ought to be loving the German take on religion and the state.

So, why in the hell do we have 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS in this country?

We may not be granting them asylum, but we sure as hell aren't discouraging them coming across the border.

It says in the article that the family currently resides in TN.

Sounds like they are just as "illegal" as those shady brown people from across the border that you're up in arms about.

They have been granted an indefinite deferral and can stay.

Wiggum, why should parents be forced to send their children to state schools? If they choose to educate their own children for whatever reason, isn't that their perogative?

Zereaux, why does it sound like they are "illegal"?

Good. That's not how asylum works.

So if Germany started supporting state religious education that said all homosexuality is wrong and sinful you would be OK with that? I mean since they are the state and they support it it should be good right?

The problem with the German education system is what happens anytime the state gets involved, they set the rules and teaching according to what they (the state) thinks is correct be it worship, physical fitness, speech, choose you category.

These people have sound, doctrinal reasoning on what and why they want to homeschool and Germany is threatening to take their children from them. If that is not reason for asylum I am not sure what is.

The SC wasn't expected to rule on what feels good, they were looking to the SC to rule on their standing for asylum based on prior precedent.

The SC hears many cases about immigration and asylum.

They are technically illegal aliens. Once your application for asylum is turned down, you are technically illegal. Whether or not they get a deferral on deportation proceedings is another matter.

No one cares about your conclusion of law. You're wrong.

The idea that Europe is hostile to religion is nonsense. In fact Germany has state taxes in support of Churches.

Sure as shite...hostile to religion indeed. Germany is more supportive of religion than the southern US....much more. I have 11 paid religous holidays in Germany...11 (Bavaria). Other than Christmas is there another federal paid holiday in the US?

There is a funny aside to the church taxes in Germany. You can opt out ( I don't, but you can). You have to go to the Rathous (pronounced Rat House, a term I am sure you government hating types love for the local city hall LOL) and sign a declaration that you are opposed to paying the church tax based on religious principles.

SOOOOO...you don't want to pay the church tax? You can choose not to do so....but when the priest is called in for last rites or to preach a funeral sermon or perform any other official function of the church the first thing they do is ask for the receipt for those taxes. Don't have one? You or your family better find someone else to perform the service. The church WILL not participate if your taxes aren't paid.

This is not why I pay the taxes...I could care less. I pay them because I don't particularly want any government but especially the German government to know what my religious views are...it is none of their dammed business.
