It's a moral equivocation.

It's unlikely we have Putins in our own government. But yes, we do have our own issues and it makes sense to recognize that somewhat in pointing the finger.

But Putin is an authoritarian thug, and this "well we have faults too" shite really only started on the right with the rise of Trump. Which is fricked up.

Then you assume way too much. Hillary lost in 2008 and her influence increased. Bill hasn't been in office since 2000, and he still carries a lot of sway at the DNC. This is also the same party/DNC that lets idiots like Donna Brazile run (and lose) a presidential campaign and continue to be heavily involved in party politics.
