I noticed you used the Ukrainian spelling rather than the Russian spelling which is also how it is spelled everywhere else in the world

Yeah, it is disturbing. Putin's Russia is at times irrational, and, it is tough to "do diplomacy" with that kind of leadership.
Crimea historically belongs to the Moscow government. It is honestly in Russia's best national security interests to have Crimea. Diplomacy may not be able to wrest it away from Russia. We may have to accept that and move on to getting Russia out of Ukraine. Maybe use Crimea as a bargain chip.

I know a Ukrainian married to a Russian, she spells it Kiev as does the rest of the world.
Since everyone has a fascination with this topic, I'm hoping people read up on the Kiev Rus preceding the rise of Muscovy
Russian history is without a doubt the most interesting IMO. I don't think they've ever had a dull generation

Where in my posts did I defend Putin?
I'm just pointing out that we have persons similar to Putin in our government. We should focus on cleaning them up before worrying about Putin.
