Wow, was it really? That was a lot of money then--probably equivalent to 6 figures today.

$77? So what, he worked 9 or 10 hours? That's not working hard.

"Former Ohio Gov. Strickland tried living on Min. Wage- here is his story"

Why? Was never meant to be a living wage. Meant for part time and the very bottom of entry level

This. I'm single and pay for school out of pocket on $800 a month. Just live below my means. I don't plan on living ok this wage forever.

Oh. You live with your parents.

In most of the South, where living costs are relatively low, $1000/month for food/rent/living expenses is believable. But big ticket needs (dishwasher breaks, car needs tires etc) are a real stretch on that kind of budget and you can basically forget it if there is some kind of medical circumstance.

It's not entirely untrue, Tigah. Please tell me your image of poor people. Then we can compare delusion levels.

We don't hate the poor, we hate stupidity, and having to pay for it!

Living on $1000 a month is do able. I did it for 2 years in graduate school. I rented an apartment with all utilities, and cable included in the rent (huge money saver) for 325 a month. I drove the least amount I could. My truck was old so tag and insurance was cheap. My food budget was 50 a week. I had the cheapest cell phone plan available, maybe 30 a month. My furniture came from yardsales. I also fished and hunted which provided most of my meat. My biggest money saver was not doing something stupid like get married and have a bunch of kids I couldn't support. I had very little savings, but I had no debt either.

I made minimum wage when I was 16 sweeping a shop floor and taking out trash.

It seems like if you are 30 years old and supporting a "family" on minimum wage you have made some very poor decisions in life.

No, it shouldn't.

Because you shouldn't be having kids in the first place until you can afford them.

This.

It's unskilled work. Literally every human being with a pulse is qualified to do the job.

Being critical of habitual poor decision makers does not equal hate. This idea that we can no longer be critical of anyone's life style is nonsense. If you have two children and a minimum wage job at the age of 30 there is a very high probability that you've made awful decisions with your life.

Either that or the ones who chose to have kids with you. Or more likely both.
