Florida man arrested for "Walking while black"?

LINK
A viral video posted to Facebook last week shows a Jacksonville sheriff’s officer threatening a young black man with jail time after he crossed the street without a walk signal.
The video shows Officer J.S. Bolen detaining Devonte Shipman and threatening to take him to jail for “disobeying a direct order” and “resisting without violence” after he stopped him over for jaywalking.
The Sheriff’s Office cited Florida statute 322.15(1) as to why Shipman was given a citation, but the statute only applies to drivers, not pedestrians. It states that every licensee must have his or her license on them “when operating a motor vehicle.”
Shipman said he was as calm as possible and recorded the encounter out of fear it might turn violent, because of how upset the officer seemed."
Who here completely sides with the Cop on this one?
Does jaywalking need to be enforced on all city streets? Do you honestly think this would have happened to a white guy in the same situation?

The law is the law but it smells like the cop was being liberal with his enforcement.

Except when the law isn't the law for everybody.
It wasn't just the "liberal enforcement" but also the escalation of temper on the cop's part that's so unnerving.

Got stopped by police for jaywalking in downtown Jax. Officer asked for my ID and I gave it to him. All went and I got off with a warning. He explained to statue to me when I asked and that was it. I was in the wrong.

Is there video of a white man doing the same and the LEO wishing him a good day?
This is a LEO not properly enforcing the law and he should be disciplined and retrained for it.

Did the cop threaten to send you to jail first?

Like I said, the law is the law. Cops often choose when to enforce it, though.

Jaywalk in Athens and you'll see a good dose of reverse racism. Athens cops are fricking nuts.

Why would anyone other than the COP be recording the entire interaction if there was not hostility.

Agreed. This kind of stuff can easily escalate for what? jaywalking?

No, he asked if I would like to go to jail. He was a smartass, bur whatever.

100% agree. We can fix it by first at least acknowledging that it exists. It's not racism, it's racial bias, we all have it, we're human.

My point is your accusation is this happened solely due to race. Is it possible, sure but without evidence the cop let a white person off for the same thing doesn't show anything other than poor policing. And there is enough of that to go around without throwing out the race card.

Why is it that every democrat turns into Perry Mason the minute they encounter a cop?
The fact is, regardless of your guilt or your race, you are NEVER, EVER going to win an argument with a cop out in the field. Shut your damn mouth, do what he says, and win your argument in court.

What happened prior to the beginning of the video? Why aren't we seeing that?
Yeah, the cop was probably an a-hole, but I'd be willing to bet the guy was instigating crap as well before that timely video recording.
Same shite, different day.

Maybe but no one would have cared enough for it to make it on the news.
"Now on Action News, man is given ticket. We'll have more on this breaking story tonight at 10."

yep. and they always record the interaction while they're being as PASSIVE AGRESSIVE as possible trying to piss off the cop.
i don't have problems with cops because i do what they tell me even if i don't think i've done anything wrong.
its the equivalent of yelling at the minimum wage worker at best buy because the tv you brought home doesn't work.
