Not kidding but I could be wrong. He was also one of their better hitters. They had 2 on with the #1 hitter up with one out. He hit into a double play to end the game but had his at bat come up, they would have had to pinch hit. I think he batted 3rd. Nevada was batting in the top half so they needed 2 runs to tie and as many as they could get because Chicago still had a bottom 6th at bat.

Wrong again, that was the number 9 hitter that hit into the double play to end the game.

ood black baseball players coming out of high school that get offered any kind of money sign and wash out in the minors. So most people never hear of them. If they would instead go to college and improve under the tutelage of decent college coaches, they might have a better chance to get to the majors.

Plus, baseball has become a year around sport in the south and west. As someone mentioned, these kids from Chicago more than likely come from solid homes and parents that have some expendable income. I've been coaching Dixie Youth since 1991 and while I've coached dozens of black kids, the number that consider baseball to be their best or favorite sport is small.

When you begin talking about travel teams, private instruction and food and lodging, the money begins to add up. Most of these kids simply don't have the ability to be a part of those programs.

On top of that, of the big 3, baseball is the sport that requires the least raw muscle and talent to play. Hell, a 4' 8" kid from Mexico hit a home run last week over a 220' fence.

I doubt the team set out to exclude non-AA kids. It's probably a reflection of the demographics that the team is derived from.

It's only about race if you make it about race and usually 12 year old kids aren't that obsessed with race yet.

It's noticing a cultural change. Boys in LL did not cry back in the day unless there was a physical injury

Were their games on ESPN for millions to watch back in the day?

Good, we need more black kids taking up baseball to keep the sport from going to shite in the future.

Whatever, I'm inclined to root for the boys if it instills character, and keeps em' from going rogue.

You're hoping it will turn them white, aren't you?

If the Chicago team wins or loses, they will have multiple ticker tape parades and go stright from the field to the White House.

I have a hunch that very few if any of the kids who are in the LLWS come from at-risk environments. Usually the parents who have the wherewithal to involve their kids in baseball at a young age, are pretty solid in other aspects of their parenting.

Your hunch is wrong in this instance.
