Here's the headline, using the word "attack" to describe Trump's tweet:
quote:

‘All Talk, No Action,’ Trump Says in Attack on John Lewis, a Civil Rights Icon

They NY Times had no disparaging comments for Lewis when he called Trump an "illegitimate president". They didn't call that an "attack".

But now Lewis is supposed to be off limits? Trump can't defend himself? And if he does he's "attacking" Lewis?

More propaganda from the masters of propaganda.

quote:

WASHINGTON — On Friday, Representative John Lewis, Democrat of Georgia, declared that he did not view Donald J. Trump as a “legitimate president.” Mr. Lewis, an icon of the civil rights movement, said he planned to boycott the inauguration, the first he will skip in three decades.

On Saturday, Mr. Trump hit back.

“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results,” Mr. Trump said in a pair of early morning Twitter posts.

“All talk, talk, talk — no action or results,” he added. “Sad!”

While some, including David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to President Obama, said they were uncomfortable with Mr. Lewis’s assertion, Mr. Trump’s outburst drew indignation from many people who pointed out the unseemliness of attacking a civil rights leader on the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Mr. Lewis was one of the original Freedom Riders, beaten by police officers while marching from Selma to Montgomery in Alabama.

I'm old enough to remember when liberals claimed questioning the legitimacy of an election was out of bounds.

Nothing like The Root's headline of . . .

More fake news. We could write a 30,000 word article about the cynical manipulation of language, the weaponization of the language by Progressives, the intellectual dishonesty, the lack of journalistic ethics, the implications for the country, etc. All of that isn't as good as the phrase "Fake News".

I'm old enough to remember when conservatives claimed that it wasn't.

Just write it off as 99% of you frickballs on all sides take whatever position is most advantageous to you at any given time.

Welcome to big boy land.

But to my point, THEY didn't call Lewis's comment an "attack". So in the NY Times universe, Lewis can call the president-elect an "illegitimate president," but Trump can't defend himself even with such a mild comment as "Lewis should focus on his own district."

Which of the two comments would you say is more properly called an attack?

Would "harsh criticism" have been more appropriate than "attack"? Seems like semantics to me but by all means proceed with the outrage or should I say harsh criticism.

Absolutely. Words matter, as you're well aware.

I would agree with you on that. I also think that the general public sees right through all of this and has had enough of the media.

Actually neither is appropriate in this case since all Trump said was Lewis should pay more attention to his own district, but that's beside the point.

The thread is about the NY Times and their one-sided coverage of the story. Lewis calls the president-elect an illegitimate president and the NY Times does not take Lewis to task for his words. Trumps tells Lewis to do his job, and the NY Times labels Trumps comment as an "attack".

That's the point.

But Lewis didn't attack Trump with his statement. I understand many see it that way but if Lewis attacked anyone it was the Russians for their propaganda campaign to swing the election. Lewis didn't disparage Trump or his candidacy. But I suppose those facts aren't important.

In defending Lewis' district which includes Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was listing the postitive things about his district and claimed that the unemployment in the district was 8%, about double the national average, as a good thing. The reporter does not realize that higher unemployment is a bad thing.

So John Lewis called Trump's campaign illegitimate because foreign media was biased against Clinton? I'm pretty sure you're just making John Lewis look like more of a moron than most of this board previously believed him to be.

No, Lewis said nothing about Trump's campaign. In his opinion, Russia conspired to influence the election enough to get Trump elected where he otherwise would not have. That's why he considers Trump illegitimate. It has nothing to do with Trump, his campaign, or the popular vote. Unless of course Lewis believes Trump conspired with the Russians.

Prove it.

Had Hillary Clinton not had CNN, the NYT, and Huffington Post working for her, Trump still would have won.
