ESPN is far from immune from the political fever that has afflicted so much of the country over the past year. Internally, there’s a feeling among many staffers -- both liberal and conservative -- that the company’s perceived move leftward has had a stifling effect on discourse inside the company and has affected its public-facing product. Consumers have sensed that same leftward movement, alienating some

SCARY QUOTE AHEAD:

quote:

Brady talked to anchor Bob Ley, who admitted that ESPN has no “diversity of thought.” A conservative employee told Brady that “If you’re a Republican or conservative, you feel the need to talk in whispers.” Jemele Hill, naturally, said “I would challenge those people who say they feel suppressed. Do you fear backlash, or do you fear right and wrong?”

i dunno if Jemele Hill has ever said something so profound

she doesn't realize it, but she just perfectly summarized the totalitarian left

Person should not fear saying something that is perceived to be "wrong". Who made Jemele Hill the expert on what is right/wrong?

Freedom of speech gives people the right to say whatever is right/wrong without fear.
That no longer exists in America.

It's not a matter of perception. When any social justice issue comes up involving sports, ESPN's "experts" are J.Hill, B. Jones, M.Wilborn, M.Greenberg, D.LeBatard, etc. There are no "discussions". There are lectures to conservatives bout how wrong we are. Curt Schilling is a staunch conservative. He was terminated for saying on air what many people around the country were thinking. J.Hill said something similar in a different context & she was "exercising her right to free speech". But it nice to know that she is there to TELL us what is right or what is wrong so we will know better.

Live sports are the only reason to watch ESPN anymore. It's kind of like losing an old friend, if you watched it a lot when you were younger.

as Shapiro put it in the article

The left believes its opinions and feelings are facts; those who disagree are therefore either morons or fascists.

Here's a thought. People watch sports to escape from their everyday reality. Now they can't even watch a game or highlights because sports has become political. ESPN has hijacked the way most people unwind and turned themselves into an entity to promote social justice. People don't wanna hear that shite so they are turning it off.

It's very telling. But we already know that's the way they think.

Jemele Hill is a cartoon character. It may get rough around the edges, but I'm also hoping a Trump presidency begins the pendulum swinging back on some of this left-wing PC stuff that is stifling discourse in America.

ESPN has been pushing hard to drive content instead of simply providing content, the ladder which provided them with such lofty sustained growth and prosperity. It also led to an unwieldy growth in airtime and excutives who have slowly eroded the core ESPN model.. the people in charge are no longer purest to the idea that the story is the actually game.

ETA. What's scary isn't what was said as much as the lack concern by those around such thoughts.. they don't even see it as scary

I hadn´t watched ESPN from the late 80´s through 2012. Was VERY suprised, both at the growth and the politicism.
