quote:Schilling was warned multiple times and kept on. Hill has been warned. If she continues and still is not let go, THEN we can talk about double standards.
The hypocrisy and double standards illustrated by ESPN's treatment of Curt Schilling and Mike Ditka are the problem, not the fact that Hill is trashing the president.
And what did ESPN do to Ditka?

So, do you believe that these folks have the right to say what they want or not? This is what you said:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calling the President a white supremacists ok.

"You're damned right it is.
That's part of what it means to live in a free country. Would you really prefer if we were not allowed to say bad things about our leaders?"
Schilling's comments were not on ESPN, but on his own social media accounts. So now, you either believe people should be able to say what they want, or you don't. If it's one way for one person, and another for someone else, that's the very double standards we're discussing. I don't think Schilling's comments were even made while on the air for ESPN.
Which brings us to Mike Ditka. He wasn't working for ESPN at the time his comments were made either. He was let go from Sunday NFL countdown within a few days of giving an interview saying positive things about Trump and criticizing Obama. Double standard. How many warnings did Ditka get, and if they should be free to say such things, why the warnings in the first place?

No one is calling for her arrest. She has every right to go on a childish twitter rant.
But had a white sports anchor called Obama a race baiting moron when he was president, we know exactly how ESPN would have reacted.

Your point is lost here.
Absolutely.
However, the point is that these people are being treated equally because of the color of their skin.

quote:I know what I said, and I edited to clarify that I thought the comment I replied to was about the general sentiments of the country as a whole with the "calling the pres a white supremacist is ok".
This is what you said:
quote:It doesn't matter where or how he said them, the fact is he is a media personality and as such he always represents his employer whether he wants to or not. So he can say what he wants, and his employer can do what they want.

And ESPN warned him about his political rants on several occasions before letting him go. I suspect if Ms. Hill doesn't heed her warning, she will be let go as well. Cohn was suspended because she attacked the company. The others made political statements.
quote:He was not let go. His new role was even his idea.

quote:Ditka is still employed by ESPN, correct?
“This new role is really a blessing,” Ditka said in a statement. “It’s something I asked for. After many years of weekend travel, I’m thrilled I’ll get to watch NFL games on Sundays and Monday nights in the comfort of my own home. I enjoy being part of the game and part of ESPN. I really do. So this is a great solution.”
ESPN, like all corporations, is all about the money. They want their employees to represent as apolitically as possible to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. The fact that you guys see ESPN as crazy liberal is hilarious. Ditka is on the payroll, and Olbermann is not.

Blackballed him b/c of his support for Trump and dislike for Obama. He was on NFL countdown for years and was replaced this year.

the network said it "addressed" the incident with Hill

The network said in a statement Hill's comments "do not represent the position of ESPN."
"We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate," ESPN said Tuesday.
Take that for what it's worth. I take it as ESPN will let her go if it continues, just like they did with Schilling after multiple "offenses".

jemele hill: we're forced to talk about politics because the players keep making it a topic of conversation so we have to cover it
espn: we're not liberal, you guys are crazy
jemele hill: Donald trump is a white supremacist. his supporters are white supremacists. America is racist.

That's a nice little safe space, but it's not really true, is it? Schilling, Ditka, Cohn, and others are fired or sent to the broom closet, while people like Jemele Hill and Kevin Blakistone say what they want. Never mind that the entire network shills for Black Lives Matter, gives heroism awards to female Bruce Jenner, and fellates Colin Kaepernick at every opportunity.
Smart people, or corporations, in pursuit of the almighty dollar, don't begin that pursuit by embroiling themselves in tangential issues that are bound to piss off a good portion of their potential customers. It's only when their opinion, philosophy, and agenda become more important than that dollar that shite like this happens. And it has most certainly happened at ESPN.

I've turned off ESPN for all but live sporting events. If more people so this they may change their SJW ways.

Was she even warned?
She knows she's got all the cards here and I suspect ESPN knows that as well. The shite storm of firing a black woman for displaying her political beliefs would be incredible (that's the way her firing would be framed).
Clay Travis was 100% correct in calling out the fact that she has black privilege that will give her immunity.

if more people give them eyeballs and subscription revenue they'll get the message?
i cut the cable specifically to weed out espn (couple of others) because i haven't watched them in years and yet they still get my money.
Posted on 9/13/17 at 3:45 pm to DelU249
I tune in to see football, some college baseball and softball. They have me over a barrel there for sure.
I don't watch anything else they produce. If more people do the same it has to hurt them enough to get the message, no?

they get your subscription fee and you tune in for the sports for which they get the highest $ in ad revenue. no one watches the brothers' brothers tom & tom on sportscenter. their original programming ratings are shite and always have been.
