I tried to find her tweet, but it's just too cloudy today to see the smoke signals.

She's referring to a "Flags for Orphans" type of Bill that didn't pass the other day to give trial lawyers more ammo.

Please define equal work. As an employer shouldn't I have the right to discriminate based on responsibilities and/or performance?

By her logic, there should be no outrage over Ray Rice, Hardy, McDonald or Dwyer.

it is an across the board statistic. It makes no distinction between types of jobs or job descriptions.

Types of jobs and job descriptions are pretty important, IMO. Especially when they're spewing this "war on women" bullshite. There is a big difference between a secretaries salary and a plant operator's salary.

They usually say women with college degrees make 75cents on the dollar to what men make. Someone looked into the claim and found out that it is true, but easily explained by the differences in fields and the fact that men are more likely to work overtime, not take paternity leave, and be the ones who travel. When you look at the same field and the same working conditions women make 99cents to the dollar so basically the same.

I would love to see this study. I remember reading it, but haven't been able to find it again.

I think it also mentioned that something like 98% of workplace deaths are men. Just another factor that may lead to higher wages if men are taking the riskier positions.

As are time in the position/experience.

Two Vice Presidents of Marketing could make vastly different incomes if one has been there a year, and the other 30. Same position, though. The mental gymnastics they have to use to make these ludicrous arguments makes me exhausted

Very much so. I left that out by accident.

It's beyond ridiculous and very one-sided. They're using this bullshite to sway uneducated, uninformed voters without giving all of the facts.

Equal pay for Equal work for Women

Women should be paid for equal work. Now stop asking me to pick up the heavy box because I am a man. Now you need to stay at work late and not spend time with your kids. Equal pay for equal work, when do I get perternity leave or will women give up maternity leave. Lets stop lowering standards so women can have an easier time getting jobs.

Equal pay for Equal work. Do the same work and get the same pay.

Here's a lot of the data distilled down.
quote:

But every "full-time" worker, as the BLS notes, is not the same: Men were almost twice as likely as women to work more than 40 hours a week, and women almost twice as likely to work only 35 to 39 hours per week. Once that is taken into consideration, the pay gap begins to shrink. Women who worked a 40-hour week earned 88% of male earnings.

Then there is the issue of marriage and children. The BLS reports that single women who have never married earned 96% of men's earnings in 2012.

The supposed pay gap appears when marriage and children enter the picture. Child care takes mothers out of the labor market, so when they return they have less work experience than similarly-aged males. Many working mothers seek jobs that provide greater flexibility, such as telecommuting or flexible hours. Not all jobs can be flexible, and all other things being equal, those which are will pay less than those that do not.

Education also matters. Even within groups with the same educational attainment, women often choose fields of study, such as sociology, liberal arts or psychology, that pay less in the labor market. Men are more likely to major in finance, accounting or engineering. And as the American Association of University Women reports, men are four times more likely to bargain over salaries once they enter the job market.
