Duckworth 'confident' she can work with Mattis

If you don't know, Senator Duckworth lost both her legs in Iraq.
"Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) says she is “confident” she can work with Retired Marine Gen. James Mattis if he is confirmed as Defense secretary.
“While we disagree on some policies, I respect his distinguished career and, if he is confirmed, I am confident we can work together to protect our troops and keep our nation secure,” she said in a statement.
Duckworth, who met with Mattis on Tuesday, has voiced concern over a waiver that would have to pass Congress to allow Mattis to serve. The waiver would let Mattis bypass a law requiring Defense secretaries to be out of uniform for seven years, which is in place to maintain the American principle of civilian leadership of the military.
“Though I've made my concerns clear about eroding the civilian leadership or our military, I had a candid and thoughtful conversation about military strategy, personnel, and procurement reform with General Mattis,” said Duckworth, a 23-year combat veteran.
The waiver must pass both chambers of Congress and will be marked up in committee after Mattis appears for his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday, as well as before the House Armed Services Committee later that day.
So far in the Senate, only Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), a member of the Armed Services Committee, has said she would oppose a waiver for Mattis over the same concerns. In the House, only Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), a Marine veteran, similarly has said he would oppose the waiver. "

Hope this works. We need General Mattis.

This is the first I have heard about the actual mechanism to get Gen. Mattis approved for SecDef.

You don't see Gen. Mattis smile too broadly too often.

I'm pretty sure Gen. Mattis could intimidate arse Carter enough to where he either cried or pissed himself.

I don't like how she uses her combat wounds to justify her stance on women in combat. As if her being shot down in a helicopter gives her any fricking insight into the combat arms. She takes advantage of her injury to dupe the stupid American people and give credibility to a stance that will weaken the military and get good people killed. Credibility that's she hasn't earned and doesn't deserve.

It's a miracle! I can walk! And...I can see!! Thank you, officers!

I just happened to notice this in her wiki when I was looking for pics:
"Duckworth was working towards a Ph.D. in political science at Northern Illinois University, with research interests in the political economy and public health in southeast Asia, when she was deployed to Iraq in 2004.[10] She lost her right leg near the hip and her left leg below the knee[12] from injuries sustained on November 12, 2004, when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter she was co-piloting was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade fired by Iraqi insurgents.[13]"
So she was interested in politics before her wounding.
And how could she not have insight into women in combat? Who could have better insight?

Would pay to see that. Carter would be looking for a safe space. There is not safe space.

Ironic that the one nomination that's fully within Democrats power to stop is a guy they love too much to fight him.

You wanna know what Mattis is thinking in that pic? "Shortly I'm gonna be the fricking boss"
