Agree.. "decent" is a terrible term. Tennessee water laws uses the word "objectionable" at one point.. and it's honestly impossible to use.

But I don't see a reason something shouldn't be added to the bill of rights. Although just the threat of adding an amendment like the one posted in the OP was enough for Nixon and crew to create the EPA

Something like:
"The natural resources of the nation are the heritage of present and future generations. The right of each person to clean and healthful air and water shall not be infringed upon by any person."

I would think the other natural resources (rare species, etc) should be left out. Hard to imagine a constitutional right to enjoying bald eagles or hellbenders..

Well, hell, let's go all the way. How about an amendment that says 'Everyone has the right to be happy.'

This is exactly right. The EPA should police pollution however it's mission has grown far beyond that. Today through a mountain of regulation the EPA protects big chemical companies by creating barrier of entry to their business.

Cuts to the EPA should also include a reduction in the regulations they are expected to enforce.

I agree with this.. and I think the EPA should get back to focusing on air and water quality. Leave climate to NOAA and endangered species to USFWS. Permits can be handled by by the Corps and the states

Well Nashville just recently had to issue an air quality alert for people with respiratory conditions and in general advised people to avoid long periods of outdoor exercise.

I don't find that acceptable tbh.

Whats going on in Nashville..what is the nature of the problem?

That said, again conflating the --I imagine--an unusual anomaly for the norm.

quote:

Davidson and surrounding counties are under an air quality alert for the second-straight day Saturday, and officials caution that the trend may continue. Ground-level ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. The general public is not likely to be affected, but active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion, experts said.

So..2 days and possibly approaching "unhealthy" standards. Humid air and temps in the 80's can often affect a particular demographic.
Thats life.

What regulations do you suppose could be demanded that would negate hot and humid weather??

Nashville sits in a bowl..if you drive down 440, between 40 and West End, you can see the whole city down in the bowl..it's early for the temp inversion, that's usually a Dog Day's phenomena.

If this is the entirety of the wording then I can tell you why it failed. Its not because of those gosh darn evil oil companies. Its because its worded like a brain dead hippie high on LSD wrote it while jamming at woodstock.

seriously, even you can't be this dense.

ETA: I'll answer your question. To say one has the right pursue happiness is the same as saying one has the right to be happy. The two are synonymous "in my world." How are they not in yours?

That is laughable. You can't be serious.

In your world, is your right to pursue a high paying job the same as you having the "right" to that job??

It's hard to think you're serious.

There are all sorts of ways that an environment can be made unclean by nature. How do you guarantee rights that we don't have control over?

I'm always weary of people asking for new rights to be protected because people don't seem to understand the difference between a privilege and a right. Rights are universal because they have been endowed by God, not declared based on public opinion.
