The hotels will close first then the city has to be agressive in tearing them down and trying to get new ones in. The issue is Panama has the spring break party attached to it. Now it's just trashy business and trashy hotels. They need an overhaul starting with new condos

I went to a many of spring breaks in the late 80s and early 90s and it was nothing like what these millennials do today, they frick up everything, they really do not know how to act..

Yes it's Spring Break and you are going to get druck and party, but they take it to a whole new level of stupid that is what locals and businesses say that is enough, it's not worth it anymore...

I never understood the appeal of going to these beaches for Spring Break... what better way to announce to everyone you are trashy. Nothing but skanks and whores. And crowds everywhere, yawn

I would always go to the mountains for spring break with a small group.

And they justify it by saying YOLO and sorry for partying

South Padre? Do college kids still do Padre?

Can't imagine padre being worth the drive with Mexico being a non option anymore? But I guess at 18-20 maybe Mexico is still an option?

Well unlike you, they probably don't have the "The alpha male guide for dummies" so they go all out when they are young, not knowing they are years from their peak maturity.

It's a shame really.

Why are you torturing me like this, Nugget? You know I can't just pack up and go on the spur of the moment anymore.

Hannity still does this?

Guy has been fighting Spring Break for years. I remember when he was railing on CNN for covering the missing Malaysia flight while he spent a week saving us all from Spring Break.

PCB is pretty much a shell of what it once was - the kinds of businesses that line Front Beach Rd. and Thomas Dr. are Spring Break tacky, even sleazy.

Unless there has been massive change in the last 3-4 years PCB didn't seem to have new tacky stuff going up, it seemed to be focused on being a proper destination. There are tacky things there specifically for Spring Break like that big club there and what not, but those had been there a long time. Spring Break is only like 1.5 months long whereas PCB could be great the whole summer. This is a better move long term wise.

The alcohol ban on sandy beaches last the whole month of March here and then stops. If they want to make it a family spot, take out the titty bars and open the amusement parks back up.

Markets will adapt. It is what the residents of the area wanted

A few businesses will close. Down the road they will be replaced w new businesses. The area will be invested in, improve, and life will go on.

South Padre became a thing again last year after PCB passed the no alcohol on the beach ordinance. So now all the college kids go to South Padre because it's the only place that still allows drinking on the beach.

Fox News does this every year, it's hilarious

"Martha, oh my god, *shakes head*, did that girl just funnel...oh my god...what would her parents..."

As if the concept of Spring Break is some new thing and getting drunk and doing drugs didn't happen in prior generations.

If I'd ever had time to go anywhere but work, I'd have joined you in the mountains.

Who in their right mind would want to rub elbows with a horde of drunk teenagers and teenage wannabes???

Give me inspirational sights and good healthy exercise every time.
