Cognitive dissonance: she points a finger at the industry that supported her film-making — as a black woman — and simultaneously claims it “perpetuates unabashed misogyny towards Black women.”

It couldn’t possibly be that the 8,000 Academy voters found the other 12 nominated films better or more enjoyable than hers.

Should have handled this with class, giving props to the other directors & actors, giving thanks for her opportunity to tell Till’s story, but instead she sounds entitled & more concerned about her awards than the film’s message.

Who wants to see her film now? Makes me think the voters chose correctly.

Black trauma stories are played, anyways.

I agree to an extent...

Not trying to blacksplain to you here BTW... I didn't stay in a Motel 6 last night or sleep in the ghetto in my truck, so I obviously have no standing...

Anyway... I think the story should have been told and it could have been a very powerful movie, if it had been done right... If it had had the right director it would have been better and if they had not tried to put words where there should not have been and pushed topics that did not even exist back then it might have made more sense...

exhume Till just for Oscar bait.

You hit the nail on the head here... She thought this would guarantee an Oscar nod...

This film was so bad it was like she didn't even try to direct anything or what she did try to direct just seemed a chore...

Sounds like we need to put that racist Hollwood in check and make sure every award show hits their respective quotas of a certain number of minority directors/actors/actresses must be nominated. And a certain percentage of the awards must also go to the same groups. That would fix everything

Lol yes, I was being a bit laconic earlier, but exactly--the "black trauma" theme is compelling if done right. It comes off as disingenuous if it's not a good film, or the marketing for said property is heavily weighted towards exploiting said trauma simply for the sake of it. My favorite Chadwick Boseman (RIP) film is actually "42," because I felt that captured the essence of the message so well, not just the time.

For lack of a better way of phrasing it, such movies have to have a soul (pun intended).

I think that's what bugged people more (including myself). I haven't seen the film, have no plans to, but even movies I've enjoyed in the past (on any subject), I always hate when it's obviously a project aimed at award season. Just changes the whole tenor for me. Not that I care which movies win awards or not, but it just makes the whole experience feel like a means to an end, instead of focusing on making a good story for its own merit.

Idk, maybe I'll get around to watching "Till" at some point (doubtful) and have a completely different take, but as it stands right now, I just don't see the need.

100% this. Which is why I think crying "racism" isn't going to work out for her like she hopes.

She doesn't even bother standing by the film in her post; just talks about herself. She's basically telegraphing to her peers that she only took on a project like Till for the accolades. Even woke Hollywood is bound to be turned off by that.

Guess whitey hasn't learned the lesson: celebrate and award prizes to any piece of junk produced by a non-white. Or else!

Hold on. Has this bitch been culturally appropriating air travel? Where will it end?
