That's actually a low ball figure. Because I don't think you're required to file a tax return if you earn under a certain amount. Combine that group with the one you mentioned and your figure grows to about 47%.

I have never been more pissed off with taxes then I am this year. It is really frustrating the amount of taxes I pay and people just get my money for being a lazy fat arse on welfare for example.
I can't even really be around a whiny liberal who's bitching about needing something else free in life in April. This is the month where homicide just doesn't seem like that a bad of an idea. My frick you attitude goes up about ten fold this time of year and doesn't subside for at least 60 days

So yes, you want to tax people for just being alive. What an idiot.

And I don't mean to add fuel to the fire here people but a lot of those people who paid zero actually paid less than zero. They were net gainers

I think what he's saying is there should be an incentive to get out of the welfare state. As it stands now there is none.

A great way to end that is to eliminate the income tax altogether and have a consumption tax instead. Gives people an opportunity to save as much as they want sans govt, and eliminates the IRS from the average employee.

The goal is to pay $0.

Some people get more withheld on payday than others. That would be my best optimistic guess.

good God. You actually don't fricking know what you're talking about. You're one of these morons who thinks that what you pay or get back in April is your net tax liability. Fair bet you're one of the non-payers

No. Why would you?

Taxes should be voluntary. If someone would rather save their money than have it taxed, then whey should be able to do so. A VAT tax or national sales tax would be a great alternative than forcible income taxes. It rewards those who save.

I would assert this framework is probably counter to that goal, if that's your goal.

Serious question. Let's assume I pay $600/bimonthly to uncle Sam in my federal withholding. April 15 rolls around and I owe exactly nothing to Uncle Sam. Did I pay $14,400 in federal income taxes?

They would be self-sufficient farmers. That would be a-okay by me. Does that mean we agree to convert from income to a VAT or sales tax?

So your solution is to tax people with the least money. How does that change anything except your victim complex?

This board complains about 30+ year olds who don't want health insurance paying a tax, but apparently some would like people to pay a literal living tax.

A national sales tax would be fine with me if all other taxes were eliminated. This should be done with a Constitutional amendment, the amendment should repeal all income, SS, FICA, estate, capitol gains, etc taxes. Establish a set percentage for the sales tax, and make it illegal to pass any other form of taxation. Also include that congress (house and senate) members will forfeit every asset they have including pensions and benefits if a balanced budget is not passed each year, by a specific date.

Then everyone would have skin in the game, there would be no "fat cat loopholes". Everyone receives the benefits of living in this great nation, everyone should have to pay into it.

This is a damn shame. Why doesn't everybody have to pay at least a little something?

thisi s the biggest cherry picking the data number around. A large percentage of the population pays no federal income tax, but when all taxes (payroll, income, sales, property) are considered you will find that the effective rate of taxation is relatively flat.
