They were totally caught off guard. The look on the Governors face told the story. His speech was geared for a different speech from the President.

The result is They look petty and divisive.

Trump's secret weapon all of his life has been the underestimation he receives from the types such as the governor.

They should have just trotted out Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.

Former governor of a state Trump won by >40pts, open collar, given in a three-forths empty lounge, rambling twangy, nonresponsive to the SOTU. Just bizarre.

They thought it would be brash campaign mode Trump, instead he was being reconciliatory, ran circles around the chumps.

They are continuing to attack the false caricature of republicans they created. Hilarious to watch.

You know every year they come up with the flu vaccine by only guessing the strand that will be prevalent the next season but sometimes the completely miss.
Yeah, that rebuttal was painfully awkward. And a dem that was replaced by a rep gov?

People from Reddit and other liberal forums are saying that it was a great move because Democrats need to appeal more to rural America. If that's the case, why couldn't the Democrats have gotten someone like Steve Bullock to respond instead? He's a younger politician who is still in office and doing very well in a red state. This guy from Kentucky just seemed like a very uninspiring choice to me.

Almost looks like it was recorded prior to Trump's speech.

They wrote that speech for a fast ball and President Trump threw a roundhouse curve that left the former Governor swinging at air and striking out.

In Trump’s speech I did not hear one word about climate change – the single biggest threat facing our planet.

Dude, get a life.

Can you imagine if this shite frick had gotten elected President?

War, famine, terrorism, joblessness, bank crisis still, homelessness, livable wage, etc.

And this shithead would have been President and thought his biggest mandate was to protect the Alaskan Moose.

Libs...kinda don't like people. They're like the old British...

"They love dogs and horses but hate people."

They didn't learn anything from the election. They felt that they could take Trumps ideals and spin them into their own negative narrative (as the media constantly does). Then use that narrative to form a rebuttal that was "obviously going to resonate with the people". What they failed miserably to do once again is to realize that there might very well be a pretty damned legitimate reasoning behind Trump's policy stances. They are too busy thinking they are inherently smarter than anything he could put together to realize he may just come out and kick them in the pussy with a speech.
