Will this thing ever be realized? It's been 75 years since the beginning of this project.

My Dad said it took 40 years just to get an outline of a face and an arm. He saw it in 1965 and 1992 and looked pretty much the same. The face was still not completed.

It took 40 years to get that face.

Why can't the Government national antiquities, public works, forest service, park service, whatever, just step in and finish this damn thing.

Mount Rushmore took 14 years with government backing. Total to finish the entire thing. And that was a lot of faces.

This thing is going on 80 years.

But so much other crap out there gets tons of government funding.

What happened to America's Best Idea?

Perhaps the Indians can pay for it themselves with a casino tax.

As an American taxpayer I'm not really all that enthusiastic about paying to finish the project.

It looks exactly the same as when I visited there 13 years ago. It's nothing but a money laundering operation for the Indians.

Is there a Pokémon character where the horse head would be?

No. The title of that thread would be Insane Squaw.

I guarantee that this monument won't be completed within the next 50 years.

I bet this would have been accomplished a lot quicker had it been the initiative of a rich philanthropist ;)

It's an insanely large project and is opposed by some modern Indian activists.

I visited as a youngster in the early 90's an have no expectation of seeing it completed in my lifetime.

It amounts to taxpayer funded graffiti. The Indians, especially, should hate this project because it defaces the land. Commission a Crazy Horse statue (with private funds) if you must, and put it someplace practical, but leave the mountains alone.

No, no. We can't have the government building monuments to people who fought our great nation.......

They should have brought in a "deal maker" to get the job done.
