It was supposed to reduce from 9,500 to 5,000 at the end of 2016 and President Obama balked.

Really, it needs to be a permanent rotation in the vein of Korea, Kuwait, or Kosovo.

Maybe more troops can speed up the process because if we remain as is we will be there forever. Let's see what he has to say first

Why are we increasing troops in Afghanistan?

Sounds like we are finally doing it with appropriate pressure on Pakistan. I hate where we've been in Afghanistan, but I actually support that. Pakistan is a nuclear power. They have no business supporting global terror, or anything that has or might lead to it.

Hmm

4000 is a completely insignificant number

It is and it isn't. The Pakistan angle is significant.

Let’s get out of Afghanistan. Our troops are being killed by the Afghanis we train and we waste billions there. Nonsense! Rebuild the USA.

What an awful decision, if this turns out to be his choice. There is no victory left for us there. It's been almost two decades.... Sounds like the military industrial complex and the warmongers in congress got their wish.

ETA: but we'all "hold Pakistan responsible". Yea right. We aren't going to bomb them, or anything else militarily. It will be as toothless as all of the other times we have tried to pressure countries in that region to knock off the terror funding. None of which have ever worked.

If the answer is more than $0.00, then it's too damn high. The price tag on this stupid, endless, goalless conflict should get someone indicted.
