It always represented reconciliation and the value of personal honor to me. Pretty simple. Not "yay Rebs".

Les Miles put "2nd nationally" or some shite on the rings after the national championship loss to bama, so Les Miles is a white nationalist/confederate sympathizer/ Robert E. Lee of football?

That's a weird way to look at a losing slaveholders' rebellion against the US...

Look into why they never tried Jefferson Davis for treason, you might not like what you find. His defense would have been secession was legal and many scholars of the time thought he very well might have been right.

Your premise is false.

Do you think we should have monuments for the Vietnam War?

Different issue than venerating the people who fought in that war. That's before we even take into account WHY these statues were erected, and when.

The view opposite of losing a loved one in a war they fought because they thought it was their duty to do so is heartless when the folks of that time were trying to reconcile especially without further insurrection

We learn about it in war college when talking about other cultures...

I could give two fricks about the statues, but to see it your way is so...marxist

Why is a statue of a great man to the city of new orleans and his home state and one of the first to advocate for Civil rights a bad thing?

Lincoln is regarded as the most influential president to Obama and Clinton. Yet he was openly racist and didnt want black men to vote. Wanted insted to ship them back.

PGT claimed that white men should be friends and lead an organization for them to vote.

Why do you hate honorable men?

Not at all . I'm from New York . My maternal side served in a NYC regiment that was decimated . The Yanks were always " the good guys" to me. But not being a simpleton, and later living in Vicksburg ( literally a Civil War trench outside my window) I came to understand that remembering and honoring the Civil War dead was a powerful expression of reconciliation.

And also a personal expression that my mind is capable of entertaining competing ideas that make black and white thinkers Highly agitated. I'm an American. But I remember history, acknowledge the humanity and complexity of my American lost brothers, and honor their sacrifice. I'm not retroactively endorsing their cause because I choose to be thoughtful, informed and respectful.

Native Americans lost. Should we remove their statues and monuments?

I'm not a Confederate sympathizer, but I'm a big fan of Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.....had he lived, he could have done real damage. The South would have still lost, but Jackson would have probably made Grant's life a little rougher in Virginia. His exploits at Chancellorsville are studied by military leaders around the world. His Valley campaign was quite impressive too.

It would be a weird way of looking at it, if that's what it actually was.
