Communter Rail Gets Taxpayer Money for Planning

Unbelievably stupid.

We should end the Amtrak subsidies now and we certainly should not invest in more government run railroads that will require subsidies.

Why would anyone pay $10 to ride a commuter train between New Orleans and Baton Rouge? They had to subsidize the commuter buses after Katrina.

I would pay 10 dollars to do that. It would be highly convient to not have to drive my car down there, park, worry about if I'll be sober enough to drive home. Etc.

I'd be saving like 2 bucks by taking my own car anyway

Ok tell just where you want the taxpayers to have the train drop you off??

How many times a week do you want to take the taxpayer train to NO to get drunk?

Train should run from MSY to downtown NOLA. That's it.

About as many times as I want to take the tax payer road to get there.

My argument isn't over whether this is a great idea or not. I'm just saying ten dollars is an excellent price point and it would be much more popular at that price than y'all anticipate. I'm not commenting on the ridiculous subsidy that it probably takes to get it to that price point

People pay ten bucks to Uber within baton rouge right now. I any many others would happily pay ten bucks to hitch a ride to NO

You can get on MegaBus now for as little as $26 round trip.

No taxpayer subsidy.

Park your car leech and ride the private business's product you want to destroy.

It would be a great idea if it was high speed with limited stops. LSU to NO Airport to French Quarter.

But they are going to make it a two hour ride with twenty stops

Why is the train better than the bus?

The bus is nonstop.

How much of your income should be diverted to this boondoggle?

If it went from say Downtown NOLA to MSY to LSU to Downtown BR, I'd say it's probably feasible.

Lots of LSU fans would go to Tiger stadium during football/baseball/basketball season, and BR residents could come to downtown NOLa on the weekends.

If they make more stops than that it won't work.

It would be more efficient to just give every light rail rider a Toyota Prius, than to actually build, operate and maintain the light rail line - almost anywhere in the U.S. outside of NYC, LA, Chicago and a few other very densely populated areas.

Is the train on traffic infested BR roads?

Do people know that you have to drive to the train station? And then drive back home?

Not sure how many people this applies to, but that rail makes the idea of me moving back to Louisiana living in Baton Rouge, and working in New Orleans, more likely, and I'm a taxpayer.

I have no issue with the study. The congestion between BR and NO is only going to get worse.

You have to get to the train station and back home. Plus it's only gonna run like 2 or 3 times a day. You could be waiting for hours. Greyhound is 11 bucks each way. You can rent a car for a day for like 40 bucks.

The train needs to go from MSY to downtown NOLA. It's the densest part of the state and the tracks already exist.
