I did "box of books" while I was in Afghanistan in 2003. The current version is brutal.

I believe Iran was fairly moderate before the shah fiasco. Another frick up by the US.

Yep, big...I see those ads of their gals on the beach. Definitely "moderate". I think that the Shah was just another of the Dictators we - and the civilized World - supported to keep Islam down. I'm positive my description of our Civilization as being the "civilized" version...would be and is questioned by current Iran. And a un-biased perusal of our Culture of Freedom...would be hard to justify in both a practical and moral sense. Philosophically, no way Muhammad's Islam can be justified; even God gives Man free-willed choice. Though not without the consequences (The Word of Truth) which even God can not override.

Earth 2017. Moving up.

The collapse of the Ottoman Empire into a fractured series of unstable protectorates mismanaged by victorious European powers along the lines of their imperial ambitions and then divided up into nation states arbitrarily without regard for demographics, sects, tribalism, etc.., coupled with the psychological dissonance of the Islamic world being subservient to infidel western powers when Islam teachings stress that muslims are destined to dominate all other religions causes chaos in the Middle East.

No, that's not it at all.

I know that thought makes you feel more comfortable, but it's just not the case.

I have been reading his articles. He is really examining some issues. And I am halfway through "How Everything Became War and the Military Became Everything: Tales from the Pentagon" ( NYT review). This is some thought provoking stuff.

In other words, stuff that will get you in trouble with the Man

I agree with the commentary.

We should get out of the Middle East today and let the cards fall where they may.

Meanwhile I read today:

Top US General says "full range" Syria Options being prepared for Trump

Including
quote:

“political-military plan”
Give me a break. Bomb those ISIS stronghold until no life survives and then come home. Not another drop of American blood should be spilled there and not a single refugee from that civil war should come here. Let the Arabs and the Persians deal with their own mess.
