If palestinians want to continue to insist that they are a nation state, then its just war... one they started at that. They also employ tactics that put civilians at grave risk.

The justification (if any) would come from defending ones existence.
And like others have pointed out, the term genocide may be being used loosely in this situation.
The technology dictates the method of defense, and if you don't use at least what your foe is using, then you're dead. Unfortunately modern technology has little in the way of discretion on who gets harmed.
But that isn't comparable to systematically rounding up innocent people, putting them on cattle cars and shipping them to extermination camps. That would actually be extremely discretionary on who gets harmed.

Everyone besides themselves, red, white, brown and black man, wanted the Comanche wiped off the face of the earth.
