Hagel was quoted as saying the Jewish lobby is strong in D.C. I don't know why Republicans have an issue with that. It is. Many in the strong pro-Israel lobby have close ties to the Evangelical lobbies. They have influence. Hagel was just stating a fact.
He wouldn't be my top choice if I could choose anyone for Sec. of Defense. But we don't get any choice. We get whomever President Obama is willing to nominate. I'd rather keep him than have someone like Michele Flournoy find herself appointed to that position.
Hagel also draws fire form the "you Mardi Gras'ers are going to hell" Evangelical nuts and the "every business should have rainbows for gay pride" pricks. I kind of like that both those extremes hate him.
