Why again should we join when other countries will be doing this?

China’s energy companies will make up nearly half of the new coal generation expected to go online in the next decade. These Chinese corporations are building or planning to build more than 700 new coal plants at home and around the world, some in countries that today burn little or no coal, according to tallies compiled by Urgewald, an environmental group based in Berlin. Many of the plants are in China, but by capacity, roughly a fifth of these new coal power stations are in other countries.
Over all, 1,600 coal plants are planned or under construction in 62 countries, according to Urgewald’s tally, which uses data from the Global Coal Plant Tracker portal. The new plants would expand the world’s coal-fired power capacity by 43 percent.

The fleet of new coal plants would make it virtually impossible to meet the goals set in the Paris climate accord, which aims to keep the increase in global temperatures from preindustrial levels below 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

That coal needs to come from somewhere......

Having lived in China, no, you don't want it. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. There were days in Beijing that were so smoggy that I couldn't see 25 feet in front of me. It was brownish and looked like the fricking apocalypse.

but all these brilliant demoncrat posters say coal is dead.

But why does the media and others praise the Paris Accord like it's a good thing?
China alone is making it null and void

You do know there are cities in China with such horrible air quality thanks to coal that none of the executives will go near it, right?

Then I say frick China for this. I found it incredibly hard to believe after living there that China and India would go along with the Paris Accord. The USA should still abide by their guidelines at least to help, but I never kidded myself that China would do it.

Right, but you and I both know that the Chinese dgaf.
They will keep building coal plants.
They will keep building coal plants.

Weren't we supposed to pay them to not reduce their carbon footprint as well?

I'm saying do it on our own free will instead of paying them.

India too. Like china, they have no intentions of reigning in coal.

Need to pressure them to build NG burning plants instead.
Truck nuts in full force then.

I know, wasn't saying we can't be conscious of our footprint regardless of agreement. I'm with you there.
Meant in general weren't we supposed to give China money this year even though they wouldn't be reducing their footprint (which already doubles ours)?

People have this idea that "clean coal" is a real (financially viable) thing.
I'm not anti-coal, I'm just being honest.

Could this be China's move to cut off North Korea?

Most Indians don't give a crap about the environment.

This is a ridiculous statement. The US is not part of the Paris agreement, and will be burning less coal in the future.
China IS part of the agreement and is building 700 new coal fired plants.
Paris was a meaningless agreement.

You know that there are cites in America that have this same problem without coal?
Hint: Don't put coal fired plants in coastal cities that have mountain ranges behind them. It's called air flow and ceiling. You don't see these smog problems in the coastal plains with these plants.
But keep fighting that battle.

Again you are conflating Chinese companies with China. Coal capacity only grew 3% last year, and will start to decrease in the next year or two world wide.
Obviously Chinese Coal Plant Building companies are looking for new business in developing countries, but even those projects are getting halted.
