The letter clearly states that “this isn’t a Marketplace plan”

Let me explain to you how this works.

You can buy individual market plans "on the exchange" or "off the exchange"("off the exchange" is similar to going through an insurance broker, or to a website like ehealth, etc). You understand?

It doesn't matter where you get it at it is all the same bronze, silver, gold level crap. It is all Obamacare compliant. And it is all the exact same price whether "on the exchange" or "off the exchange". Trust me. I have looked.

This guy purchased "off the exchange". That tells me he doesn't qualify for a subsidy(in other words, he makes too much money). The only way to get a subsidy is to purchase "on the exchange(aka the Obamacare marketplace)". In fact the letter clearly states "since you have purchased out of the marketplace you don't qualify for any financial help."

It doesn't matter where insurance is purchased ...IT IS ALL OBAMACARE COMPLIANT and is subject to the Obamacare mandates.

This is the natural effect of the intentional sabotage and destabilizing of the insurance market by Trump and the Republican thugs in Congress.

Mines went from 450 a month prior to the Affordable Care Act to 1600 a month last year. Deductible was 15,000. Bought off the exchange. It was a bronze plan. The gold plan would've been about 2000 a month with a slightly lower deductible. It's absurd.

You don't know what you are talking about. The ACA mandates kicked in in 2014. That year my premiums went up almost 200%. And I have been dealing with huge increases every year since. Way before Trump. You don't have facts on your side.

Thank-you for taking the time to explain! The democrat hacks are ignorant in their defense.

As Trump has said the only way we can use insurance is if we get hit by a truck to meet any deductible.

What does that have to do with anything?

Some of you people have no idea how insurance works. I guess if your wife provides your insurance or you work for a large company or government you don't have to worry about it.

You think if he goes to the marketplace website BCBS is going to magically give him a 50% discount for the same plan?

Marketplace is only affordable if you are poor. There are no discounts for people who have legit income.

And the letter clearly states this is a bronze plan, which is the lowest tier plan you can get. (Gold>Silver>Bronze)

Not only that, but he received it at the beginning of open enrollment and had plenty of time to shop for a more affordable policy. I don't see the problem here.

There are no "affordable policies". It is all the same bronze, silver, gold level options. The difference between insurance providers is minimal(if you are lucky enough to have more then one provider).

I want you to go see this for yourself. Open enrollment via the ACA exchange starts November 1st. Go get a price quote for an unsubsidized plan. Then come back here and post premium quote. Tell us if you can afford it.

You have no clue. I do have a clue. I have been dealing with this since 2014. I got priced out of the market last year. I couldn't afford it. My options...pay for this overly mandated over priced crap that I can't afford or we are going to penalize you for not buying it.

You sit and listen to the Dems and the media and think Obamacare is the greatest thing since sliced bread. They are pumping sunshine up your arse. You need to see for yourself. Go price a policy.

You have to pay more because fewer people are paying for their "insurance". Nineteen million of that 23 million insured through Obamacare are on Medicaid. Most of the rest are getting subsidies. Where do you think the money is coming from to insure them?

If you have a job and make a decent salary, or even a middle class salary-- can you sign up for the marketplace Ocare plan?

First - all plans are Obamacare plans. The ACA changed the law for everyone whether or not you purchased your plan through the “marketplace.”

Second - the marketplace isn’t some new magical insurance offerings; it’s simply a collection of plans already offered from various companies.

Lastly, and to answer your question - No, you cannot get a subsidy if you make anything resembling a half decent income. My brother and his wife are young, have very little income, rent a one bedroom apartment and both drive 5-10 year old cars ... they were denied subsidies because they earn too much. Furthermore, his wife has a good plan through her employment, and my brother would like to get on it, but because of some fricked up part of the ACA, he would have to pay a large penalty because his work also offers insurance- even though his is shitty.

Why not just change it to "Care Act" and drop the Affordable part?
