We don't have 40,000 to put there without making deployments 15 months and back to back. Right now they are about 9 on 12 off if you're in a BCT that's not in Hawaii.

I stop short of saying "not good" though. Put any SOF group through an 18 month workup with any goal in mind and these guys will do just fine
SOCOM has been running these wars for nearly twenty years and we're losing. They're great at conducting missions but obviously not very good at winning wars. They need to be in a support role as they were originally intended. If they can't win the war then let someone else give it a shot, or better yet, just leave.

This is partly the issue. It's been brought up quite a bit in the last few years. We nearly COIN'd ourselves into a real strategic nightmare. At this point they need to conventional the frick out of Afghanistan.

Well the 4000 can go up or down. I think that part of his point, let's focus on results and not troop levels.
I am going to give him the benefit of the doub. What he said seems to reasonable. In the end, it will depend on how conditions change on the ground.

I don't like staying in afghanistan but this is anything but endorsing obama. delegating control to the field generals is a HUGE FU to obama. Also calling out the deep state controlled pakistan was another huge FU to the deep state.
I don't like staying but at least he is trying to do some real good with the compromise.
