If you want capitalism to continue you need to fix SS and Medicare and obamacare.
That ain't happening either. "Fix" =/= "nibbling around the edges"

Riddle me this: If the masses can't afford to buy things because automation has replaced them and they have no income, how will the rich capitalists make any money if no one is buying their products? Automation will lead to lower prices and more availability for things.
I've always wondered something about UBI. If everyone is guaranteed a common, equal payment, won't this just cause inflation? You're basically increasing everyone's purchasing power equally, so no one gets any actual advantage out of it.
I think I'd be for a basic income for the poors if it meant removing the bureaucracy associated with the welfare state. This would be more efficient than the current system. But if everyone gets the same payment, I don't see how it would change anything.

UBI is a soul killer to capitalism.

Liberals can't think this out that far. You are going to hurt their heads.

This thread is pure clickbait.

One of the problems with UBI is it removes the control social engineers have over other people's lives. Bureaucrats would overload therapy sessions with widespread depression.
We all know what happens. Poor people spend money on things unrelated to sustaining life, progressives panic and we end up with UBI and a massive welfare bureaucracy.

I could see much of the transportation sector being largely automated in the next 20-30 years. The technology already exists that would allow railroads to eliminate much of their train crews with the possible exception of switch yards.
Airlines are going to eventually have aircraft with a completely automated pilot system, maybe there will still be flight attendants, long haul trucking same deal. Automation is going to create a lot of free time for a lot of people. Makes you wonder if the crime rate will track higher as automation increases.

At some point it will. We already have 3D printers that can self-replicate. I think it's a long way off before automation takes over the jobs that will be created by new technologies though. At some point AI will surpass the human brain and at that point people will be truly obsolete. At some point in the future all computer programs will be written be other computer programs. Robots will be built and repaired by other robots.
Won't be too long before people are not required to write the software code. People will tell the computer what they want an app or program to accomplish and the computer will create beta programs that will allow feedback from the human until the program is acceptable.

And what happens when it's less expensive to automate than it is to pay workers? UBI is what will bring in automation you idiot.

The same thing was said in the 70's and look where we are now: under 5% unemployment even with ~12M illegals here doing jobs "Americans won't do". Learn from history.
You're right but LFPR had been rising, there's something like 90+ million working age Americans not in the work force and entitlements are also rising, something has to give.

So you've got it exactly wrong.
Universal income is socialism, and by extension, the termination of capitalism.

Everyone can do something of value.
Even if it is just mowing my lawn and cooking my dinner.

How much business do you believe to be conducted by manual labor
I'd venture as you roll in things like data processing and not just thinking about taking orders at fast food places or driving trucks this discussion gets even more complicated.
Suddenly it's not just those factory workers but hits into finance, accounting, law, all kinds of sales and revenue management, etc.... but the flip side is who knows what outside our imaginations industries might pop up

Or we could just revamp our education system to help more people have skills necessary to succeed in a tech based economy, stop importing uneducated blue collar foreigners, and stop subsidizing unhealthy lifestyles through welfare programs that lead to laziness, obesity, and people having too many kids which we then subsidize as well.
Our immigration and welfare policy is increasing the poor working class at an alarming rate while the economy needs less of these people in the workforce. UBI isnt the answer, reforming welfare and immigration in order to gradually reduce the number of poor, uneducated people in the country along with creating a better education system for everyone is the answer
