A controversial idea championed by Sen. Ted Cruz will be included in today's draft of the GOP health care bill, according to three sources familiar with the bill. It's similar to the provision Cruz worked on with Sen. Mike Lee, but Lee hasn't seen the bill yet and is not yet sure whether he supports it, according to his office.

The Consumer Freedom Option allows insurers selling plans compliant with Affordable Care Act regulations to also sell non-compliant plans. The provision will be in brackets, the sources say, meaning it's incomplete and subject to edits or removal. However, the Congressional Budget Office is still analyzing two versions of the bill, one with the provision and one without.

quote:

An additional $70 billion to help states stabilize their markets and offset the costs of covering expensive patients — on top of more than $100 billion that was already there.

$45 billion to fight the opioid epidemic.

A provision allowing people to use tax-preferred health savings accounts to pay their premiums

Changes to the ACA that would let more consumers use tax subsidies to buy plans that only offer catastrophic coverage.

The bill would no longer repeal two of the ACA's tax increases on wealthy families, and it won't include a new tax break for health-care executives.

7-8 years of constant bitching from party leaders and countless meaningless votes to repeal during Obama's term, and this shite is the best they can come up with? frick the GOPE leaders.

And then watch it die a horrible death on the Senate Floor? Assuming it can even make it to a vote?

I like Rand and his plan, but I live in the real world

Yep, they'll never let go of that money stream. Pure repeal, and work on replacement seems like the best strategy going forward.

This bullshite wouldn't be happening if Tom Delay was still (politically) alive. He would have punished all the idiots who are standing in the way and gotten a pretty damn good bill through. That Dude got shite done in the House and then got it rammed through the Senate to boot.

This isn't even coherent. What policy are they trying to push forward? What vision?

"Let's get to 50 votes" isn't a coherent vision.

This is what happens when the only coherent policy is to simply repeal the bill. They totally ignored the ramifications of just a repeal and did nothing to build a policy to rally behind.

Governing is hard.

Whatever these idiots pass, if it doesn't bring premium costs down for middle class families I hope they all know they're signing their own pink slip.

Please call both of your Senators every day to express your opinions. They need to hear from you guys, as well.

Let's start over on a bipartisan fix (see: Alaska).

Well, it could because it allows bare bones plans that barely cover anything. I think it kicks that decision down to the states though to give these cowards a little cover.

They're creating a sub-prime health insurance market.

Because that worked so well in housing.

Stated differently: most Americans actually want the ACA.

You are such an idiot. Giving people the choice to get a plan that covers ONLY hospitalization or whatever they want it to cover is now "sub prime health insurance".

Sorry it might not have all of your unnecessary freebies that you call essential benefits, but hey.. not everyone wants to pay extra for those.
