"Best possible outcome" is just spin, which is completely expected. But this is definitely not some great blow to Trump's agenda, and he will take full advantage of the options this ruling affords him (blaming dems for threatening American's safety, making a point of the activists judges, probably getting the 9th circuit split, etc). I feel like in the past other republicans would just limp home with their tail between their legs instead of going for the throat.

Not necessarily. Think back on the gun control debate. If the ban wouldn't have prevented the attack, the blood isn't really on libs' hands.
Everyone should keep that in mind when the next attack happens, which it will. It's going to be an American citizen.
