There is no reason to oppose background checks, waiting periods, and registration.
Sure there are. There are multiple reasons why I should oppose any new gun legislation.
You know what those reasons are and I'm quite sure you would call anyone paranoid for stating them, so I'm not going to even bother.
The government won't be taking your guns.
Governments have done it in the past. Not sure why you believe ours won't eventually attempt to.
It's time for reasonable, common sense solutions to the senseless volume of gun crime.
Another individual who is uninformed on the actual statistics. I'll post some for you. Crime Statistics From 2011: Violent Crimes (all)
The last time it was nearly that low was in 1983 (1,258,090 violent crimes committed).
The last time it was actually lower was in 1978 (1,085,550 violent crimes committed). Forcible Rape
Lowest number since 1983 (78,920 forcible rapes). Murder
Lowest number since 1968
(13,800). Aggravated Assault
Lowest number since 1985 (723,250). Total Crime
Lowest number since 1974 (10,253,400).
That is all with our population at 311,591,917. Which is 72,851,917 people less than 1985 (238,740,000). I picked 1985 because it is the closest year I found in the stats I posted. I could use 1969 (the year after the last time murders were lower than they are now) and our population would be ~110,000,000 more people, yet we have less murders. LINK
All of the stats on that site are from the FBI crime statistics.
So, I ask, why the hell do we need more legislation if our crime is decreasing?
