Strange choice, Ben is a smart guy but I'm not drawing a connection.

Well. It's Housing. And Urban Development. Ben is black. Lots of black people live in urban areas.

Also, Ben is a physician. And black urban areas that need HUD attention have higher rates of disease (both infectious and social) than other parts of America. So he would be in a great position to affect policy decisions that could benefit the health and welfare of many urban black Americans that need help.

Also, Trump has talked about how Obama has ignored (ironically) our inner cities, which have become shameful. Ben is a very dynamic leader and business man who can help Trump formulate policy for inner city development. He and Trump speak the same language when it comes to that.

So, there's a few connections that come to mind right off the bat. I can list some others if you're still struggling.

Look at his life story. His background is the urban equivalent of being born in a poor log cabin. He rose out of poverty and understands the hopes and needs of those who have aspirations to do the same. Great choice!

Granted those are valid points, hopefully he will surround himself with quality urban planners and economic developers to have a positive impact on those areas. That said, just bc you're a highly educated minority from a blighted urban area doesn't necessarily mean you are qualified for a role totally outside the realm of your focus. The operating room is far removed from the downtown slums.

A couple of things to keep in mind: Ben Carson has not forgotten his roots. Against all odds, he rose out of ignorance and poverty with hard work, determination and the ability to take advantage of opportunities. Not just highly educated, the man has a great intellect and a great heart of compassion. I think his calling to HUD may well be the best place for such an exceptional individual to apply his gifts for the good of our nation. He will assemble the best minds as support, but may likely break the dysfunctional previous HUD mold.

Makes better sense than our current Sec. of Defense having no military experience. Didn't serve one day in uniform.

How hard a job can it be? You are basically just an administrator working with inner cities on housing projects, etc. It doesn't take a brain surgeon (which Ben is).

He'll probably airdrop pamphlets about Celibacy on the ghetto.....maybe some bibles and call it a day.

Yeah if you actually read his book you'd know that he grew up poor. But his mom put an emphasis on doing well in school which is obviously a big reason he made it out of there. If anyone knows about this, I'd say it's him

Good fit because a white person trimming the fat at HUD would be called a racist, and there's a big need for common sense and forward thinking in that department. Carson has both.
