quote:here's a question, what would happen to a big bearded 300 lb white dude who exhibited the exact same actions as this moron? He gets shot just the same. I'm sick of every one of these supposed racial shootings turning out the guy was terminally stupid. Even the one in Minnesota with the janitor, turns out from the dash cam and police report that the moron was driving around town so baked out of his mind, with a loaded weapon on his person and a child in the back seat, and was to high to comply with extremely clear, urgent, and repeated instructions not to go for the gun.
Why does it even matter what color skin they have? If it was two black officers, or even one white and one black, would this even be stated in the article?

What was the hurry? Why couldn't they talk for a while? He wasn't brandishing the firearm why not try diplomacy Rambo? Why rush the guy threatening to shoot him in the head the entire time.
I'm still waiting to see the tipping point in the video. Don't fricking tell me it is when the cop claims he reached for his gun. If yall believed the government this much there would be no need for the 2nd amendment

They probably thought he was going to have a lot more issues than getting fired.

You are so wrong predicating a firing on the need for "a crime" to have been committed.
That's moving the goalposts.
We'd all like to live in that fantasy land...
Where you only get fired if you commit a crime.

They were called in because he (a felon) threatened somebody with a gun. You don't talk that out. You arrest him on the spot, check for any weapons, and then talk all you want.

Nobody said that. I said why wait? It was an internal investigation. It's their body cam. If he didn't follow protocol or whatever, fire him then. Why did it take 2 years to review Dept protocol? Why wait?

911 was called because he was brandishing the firearm.
I don't think he deserved to die either, but this narrative that Sterling has no blame in this is irritating. If Sterling would have followed the law, none of this would have happened. If he would have complied with the officer's commands, none of this would have happened. Sterling had ample chances to give up and didn't. I don't blame the cop. At the end of the day all he wants to do is go home to his family.
This also isn't the first time something like this occurred with Sterling. In 2009 the exact same incident occurred, except during the struggle a 9mm fell out of his waistband, thus ending the immediate danger.

Tha hell you talking about?
The FEDS straight up said he had a gun on him.
He was reaching for the gun in his pocket.
fricker is acting twigged out of his do acting a fricking fool. Breaking the law and refusimg officers orders after the fact. One less stupid worthless trash on the streets. I shed no tears.
Guess another one will just fill his role. One goes two more pop up. Dude is selling contraband on private property. High as frick and no doubt some customers dont want to see that shite going down. Cops are called to get his arse off rheir property. They find out he is breaking the law and attempt an arrest. He fights back and then reaches for a piece while almost blowing his damn foot off. Guy was freaked out of his top.
The officer who told me this spoke with those in BRPD and said the gun was pointed down at his foot when he reached in his pocket.

Sterling didn't deserve to die, but his choices made it much more likely that he would.

The talking happens after he’s in handcuffs. This isn’t a negotiation. They aren’t required to explain in detail all laws and reasons why he’s being detained before they can cuff him. They attempted to cuff him, he resisted. You don’t back down at that point and decide to talk it out, you raise the level of force.

Tackling him was stupid. Really stupid. In the video you can't confirm Sterling was reaching for a weapon, but it does seem plausible. The guy that got fired should have never been in LE. Clearly didn't have the disposition for those situations.
Sterling was a POS but so was the guy that shot him. I'm long past tired of hearing LEO tell me "my job is to go home after my shift" - um, no, your job is law enforcement and it entails risk, so deal with it like a fricking man. And I love LE trying to lecture military about this shite, it's hilarious.

That video should be shown all across the country in every LE training course on how not to handle this type of situation. That was some shitty police work.

The case stems back to the 2016 shooting of Sterling, who was later found with a gun.
How was he “later found with a gun”? He had the gun when he was shot, not later, it was at that moment.
Good lord the writers we have......

I'm still waiting for someone to show me why someone had to die that night. Couldn't the trained professionals hold him at bay until back up arrived? Why did they feel the need to escalate the situation?
Why did Sterling, a felon, brandish a weapon? Why didn’t he comply with the officers? Better yet why did he reach towards the gun as he resisted arrest? That is more than enough grounds for deadly force and if you can not comprehend that then there is no hope for you. In regards to the fired officer, he escalated the situation and likely deserved to be terminated.

Later as in 9-11 was called to report he was harassing customers with the gun. Later as in he tried to reach for the gun in his pocket while cops were trying to handcuff him.
Idiot journalist.

Stars and Stripes since you have the perfect disposition for the job I assume you have applied to the BRPD and requested to work Alton’s neighborhood? I’m sure you showing up to arrest a suspect with a flower in your hand is going to work out just fine.

He was high on drugs and had been waving a gun at people who called the cops. Let’s try and reason with him.

The only PC response acceptable in this day and time is a police funeral everyone can be proud of while the worthless killer gets ten years and early release. Had that happened, we would have had ten minutes if everyone is so proud of cop funeral coverage and never heard of this guy again until he was released and killed the next person.

So much truth in this statement. The path of least resistance that is preferred by an enabling public.
