I got paddled once and I was damn proud to get it. I was in 6th grade PE class. It was report card day. The coach demanded to see the report card of each boy.

You got a good hard swat with a big wooden paddle for each 'D' or 'F.' I showed my card to the coach and he said 'bend over'. I got one hard swat and asked 'Why?'

He said, "You got a B in one subject. You're supposed to make straight 'A's, Zach." I took it as a great compliment.

You and Tigerdev should have a brag-off competition.

He went to the best school in La. I went to New Iberia HS. I suppose there were worse schools in the area. Maybe Loreauville or St. Martinville.

Well retention actually results in worse academic outcomes, increased behavior problems, and higher drop-out rates--plus it's costly. So it may not be ideal, but holding them back is way worse.

The problem is it teaches all the wrong lessons. It basically teaches that no matter how much you suck, no matter how much you TRY to fail, no matter how much of a problem you are to everyone around you, no matter how violent or disruptive or disrespectful you are, there are no consequences. Once the zero tolerance policies hit the books, a bully could pick a fight with a kid and if the other kid raised a hand to defend themselves, they would both get suspended or expelled. This gave those who don't give a f$&k all the power. They could rule the school because they couldn't fail, couldn't be disciplined, and bully anyone who cared about their grades at will because if they tried to defend themselves their academic record would be torpedoed.

If you reward shitty behavior, you get more shitty behavior, and that's exactly what happened.

I didn't know corporal punishment still existed. I have no problem with it, but I'm shocked in our pussified society that it's still allowed.

Barbara Norton's Corporal Punishment Bill by Zach quote: Hasn't this woman said some really dumb things in the past? Pretty much everything she says is stupid. My favorite is her response in floor debate to opposition arguments: "Your argument is not generic to my bill." When she means 'germane.'

You'd think she formulates excellent arguments. She's lists her education as a ULM "legal course".

But most kids aren't trying to fail, and those that are, probably just don't come to school.

But they aren't rewarding the behavior, and to your point about paddling: it just isn't very effective anyways, and it's hard to implement it in a way that could make it more effective. It needs to be immediate, with corrective feedback, and the more it's used the less effective it will become, unless it becomes more severe.

The research is consistent across animal studies and human studies, and it's consistent across various methods of punishment.

I'm not saying that punishment shouldn't be instituted, but we are pretty terrible at doing it correctly to make it effective.

Did she bring in Hurricane Chris to help sell the bill via a rapping performance on the house floor?

I'm pretty sure parents have to give consent before a kid can be paddled. So this bitch thinks she knows better than the kids parents? frick her and the horse that rode in on her.

I know a guy that had to go in front of a committee she was on concerning a proposed bill, she asked what the bill concerned, she wrote the bill in question
(I mean her handlers wrote it for her) the casinos own her.

It's cringeworthy everytime she opens up her fat, ignorant mouth. Last year she attempted to interrupt state Rep (now US Rep) Mike Johnson on the house floor with the dumbest questions. Everyone including Mike couldn't help but laugh at that troll. What an embarrassment to her district & the state. Thank God I live in Bossier.

I was paddled and I remember my mom walking me up to my 1st grade teacher and telling her she had her blessing if the teacher wanted to paddle me. I decided to respect my teachers and never got in trouble.

I'm glad my mom did that seems like lots of moms have been taught to be victims and are really dramatic.
