A push to ban corporal punishment in Louisiana public schools made more progress than it has in years. The House Education committee has vote 6-5 to approve Barbara Norton’s bill to do away with paddling in schools

There is without question a direct correlation between the lack of actually punishing children when they do something wrong and the snowflakes we have in society today, so by all means let's make things worse.

Sounded like she was liking where her conversation was going

Her neck looks like a giant tootsie roll

I almost spit out my drink driving down the road when I heard it. I knew I needed to record it and bring it here for everyone's enjoyment.

Is that Mooch'shell Obama's sister?
Or Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP) in drag?

Hasn't this woman said some really dumb things in the past?
Pretty much everything she says is stupid. My favorite is her response in floor debate to opposition arguments: "Your argument is not generic to my bill." When she means 'germane.'

Per the audio:
Caddo Parish
185 paddled ... 172 were black.
93%
Perhaps the black students as a whole should behave better.

Reminds me of what Jackie Gleason's character in Smokey & the Bandit said when told that something wasn't germane to the subject.
"What do the GD Germans have to do with this?"

I don't have an opinion on corporal punishment one way or the other, but my god, if your main argument revolves around young girls wearing skirts so short that the paddler will have impure thoughts while paddling them...I just...I just can't.
This is what passes for a legitimate argument with a certain segment of our LEADERSHIP. Not to mention their constituents.

quote:Corporal punishment COULD be effective, if it's immediate and used infrequently enough that people don't become habituated to it. Punishment in general (not the same as natural consequences), is less effective than reinforcement of appropriate and alternative behaviors.
There is without question a direct correlation between the lack of actually punishing children when they do something wrong and the snowflakes we have in society today, so by all means let's make things worse.
Therefore, as it is usually not instituted in the manner most effective, and is not the most effective way to change behavior, it is essentially useless.

quote:There is plenty of research to suggest it shouldn't be used, but of course, rather than focusing on the logic and evidence, the politicians resort to emotional appeals.

The thing is, it's not even an emotional argument.
She could have made a hollow emotional argument that actually might have been effective, but instead she made the weirdest most ridiculous argument you could think up, regarding paddlers getting turned on.
The more I think about the more I
I remember Barbara Norton's classic "cup of water" exchange on the state house floor, so I get a kick out of her speaking argumentatively on any subject.

This. I was a child in school when paddling was taken off the table. I saw what that change did. Once kids realized there really were no consequences for being jackasses, that they would be "socially promoted" even if they failed, they pretty much made it their job to be the biggest jackasses possible. They realized that they had all of the power and all of the leverage.
I hope SJW's and parents will someday realize what they did when they stopped smacking their idiot, disruptive, aggravating, instigating kids.

Maybe if the children had submachine guns, the adults wouldn't whoop them.
