Former White House Chief Strategist Stephen K. Bannon believes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) are trying to “nullify” the 2016 election because they do not believe in the economic nationalist agenda that got President Donald Trump elected.

He also revealed that McConnell even told Trump’s team to “back off” the “drain the swamp” talk during one of their first meetings.

quote:

Bannon also told Rose that Messrs. Ryan and McConnell are not going help Trump “unless they’re put on notice. They’re gonna be held accountable if they do not support the President of the United States. Right now there’s no accountability. They do not support the president’s program. It’s an open secret on Capitol Hill. Everybody in this city knows it.”

I've thought a bit that Trump is actually making the smart play here. He's doing exactly what Ryan and McConnell are doing. Treating them as the enemy, and assuming that since they won't support his agenda, he will just begin working on the assumption that they won't be in power much longer.

He's going ahead and starting work with Schumer because he's assuming that come the midterms, Ryan and/or McConnell will be minority leaders.

Which isn't a bad assumption, frankly.

just because other elected officials don't agree with the POTUS on a particular issue, that doesn't mean they are trying to "nullify" anything.

believe it or not, this isn't a dictatorship.

I don't think this is about dictatorships, it's about a unified front. One thing I will give liberals is that their side is generally much better about sticking together when they are trying to get things done.

That's the upset here....between Ryan, McConnell and factional groups like Freedom Caucus, they are working against Trump.

Trump has proved the GOP D.C. Crowd Never wanted what they said on the campaign trail. D.C. Class doesn't want tax reform, Obamacare repeal, or tough immigration since money folks like the current setup. McConnell and Ryan are happy slow walking trump and saying we can't do anything because of congressional rules but fail to mention they can change the rules anytime

This isn't about simple agreement. This is about blocking everything his platform stood on.

It's about these idiots telling their voters that they stood for these things and when the AMerican people give them the WH they crawfish back into the mud.

These people will be reprimanded by the people.

So what exactly is this disagreement? We've heard repeal and replace for 8 years. Trump comes along and says he agrees, send him the bill and he'll sign in. Nine months later their is still no bill to sign. We've heard a shite ton of excuses though on why they can't do it. Tax reform is the same way. They've drug their feet so long that it's doubtful it gets done this year. Trump is ready with pen in hand and the repubs are sitting on their hands.

Talk about a distinction without a difference. If the people elected a certain agenda and the legislators won't give it to them, it is a nullification.

This. After failing to do anything with ACA, Trump knows the republican majority is finished in the house and senate. He's just getting in good with the new squad.

McConnell and Ryan are now reaping what they sowed.

Trump should tweet a picture of himself sitting at the Resolute desk, pen in hand, saying "I'm ready to sign the bills. Where are they, Congress?"

Getting Bannon out of the White House is going to be one of the worst things that could have ever happened to the GOPe.

Neutralize is probably a better choice of words than "nullify."
