I'm going to tell you something you may or may not have ever heard before but you need to read it and spend some time thinking on it because it will do wonders for you on this issue.

The players are not protesting the treatment of themselves in this. I don't even like them using this platform as a voice because I love this country and I think it is disrespectful. But you have to understand that you dont think they have a point. That's the whole issue. I have YET to see someone say, yes I understand their point and reasons I just wish they wouldn't do it like this.... it's always WHY ARE THEY EVEN PROTESTING and then being upset by the kneeling. The issue, especially with people like on this board, is that you see no reason for the protest, therefor you have 0 sympathy for why they're doing it, simply anger that they are doing it. They are doing it for friends and family they think are being systematically treated unfairly. Those are not my words, that's what the issue is. They are watched by millions and figure that's the best way to show that they think there is a bigger problem than kneeling. Downvote me and all, but that's the issue. Hope it helps some of you.

Unfortunately, the NFL hierarchy might not recognize nature and extent of the PR issue they are wading into until it's too far gone.

Most protesters don't bother me. This one does. I suspect that it has a lot to do with the fact that I wore that flag into combat and watched it draped over the caskets of some friends. Of course not all veterans necessarily feel the same way.

But I agree with the basic original premise that all people should be treated fairly. Unfortunately the players choose an act that is textbook disrespectful. Burn it, throw it on the ground, don't stand when it is presented. All of these things are part of social understanding that has existed for a long time. If I walk up to you and give you the finger or moon you but say I did it to protest some form of injustice would it matter. No, because regardless of motivation I chose an action that is disrespectful.
