A two-star general has been demoted to one star and will retire after he received punishment for failing to pursue a sex assault claim in his command, the Army announced Wednesday.
Maj. Gen. Michael T. Harrison, former commander of U.S. Army Japan, will retire as a brigadier general, according to a news release from the Army.
Army Secretary John McHugh directed that Harrison be retired at the lower rank, the release states.
“Maj. Gen. Harrison was investigated and disciplined for failing to properly address a sexual assault allegation in his command,” the release states.
“Under Federal law, officers retire at the highest grade in which they have served satisfactorily, and the Secretary of the Army has the responsibility to make retirement grade determinations for all officers.” according to the release. “In this case, the Secretary determined that Maj. Gen. Harrison’s highest grade of satisfactory service was as a Brigadier General.”
Harrison was suspended from his duties in June by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno and McHugh. The Army provided no details about the alleged sexual assault case.
However, Stars and Stripes reported that a woman alleged in March that an officer in the command who was her supervisor sexually assaulted her and repeatedly subjected her to unwanted advances. The woman said she was removed from her job after other employees complained the officer shower her favoritism, Stars and Stripes reported.

All you did was weaken a country today, McHugh. That's all you did. You put people's lives in danger.

Administratively rather than through UCMJ? I cannot begin to tell you. This is pretty unprecedented.

Some general at Bragg was demoted to LTC recently for having an affair I believe. Or maybe he was a full bird.

Demoting Flag O's to send political messages and next opening up the ranks to he-shes. Military is being watered down.

I'd like to give GEN Odierno the benefit of the doubt and that the punishment is warranted.
However, in today's PC military in which Flag Officers are more politicians than warriors ... well ... you just never know whether or not GEN Harrison was a scapegoat for PC justice.

Alright....let me explain how this works in these sort of cases...
When an officer is close to retirement does something criminal or just plain stupid, that officer retirement grade will be the last grade in which they have shown honorable service..
I've seen several cases of this over the last few years and happens more often than people outside the military know....
One person I served with was a one star whose retirement grade was lieutenant colonel after his wife got tired of his antics
Another case I was involved with dealt with a reservist who was playing fast and loose with housing rules and having an inappropriate relationship with an enlisted service member...this person ended up with losing their security clearance and a retirement grade down one....this person will be paying back the money they were fast and loose with by about 15 times when all is said and done....

A little light hearted humor on the part of PsychTiger. The gentleman in question is already retired so it hardly impacts on current readiness of the Army.

A superb general officer to say the least. I believe he acted appropriately in suspending Major General Harrison. However, the decision to administratively reduce him resides solely with Secretary McHugh.

If I'm posting it, always assume sarcasm first, idiocy second.

A lesbian would actually be worth more PC points.
