Army Times: Brig. Gen. Sinclair will retire as a lieutenant colonel

Ouch. I followed that case for a while. Kind of seemed like he was being railroaded. Didn't the whole rape thing fall apart at the end when it turned out they were just having an affair.

I would have to go back and research, but I would have to say yes, he was not convicted of rape. He retires at the last rank he served at honorably, a lieutenant colonel. Setting aside the emotional aspect of it, in my opinion the law was appropriately followed. I for one am glad that they went forward with the reduction. They followed the trend of (now) Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) James H. Johnson.

Damn. General officer getting busted down. You don't see that everyday. The lesson here is to never trust a female in uniform. They're all worthless sloots who will turn on you in a second to protect their career.

We are going to agree to disagree. Regardless as to whether the relationship was consensual, he still demonstrated a lack of integrity as an officer and used his position to take advantage of a subordinate. Glad to see he is retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Oh I agree that his conduct was dishonorable and that he should have been punished, but getting busted down two ranks for an affair is fairly uncommon. There may have been other things involved (false official statements, intimidation, etc) that aggrevated the situation. When our senior and flag officers screw-up, they almost always seem to retire in-grade. The three-star who was busted using counterfeit poker chips got a Letter of Reprimand and $4,000 fine, but will likely retire in-grade.
Maybe the Army's done fooling around. My first Commander at AFRICOM, Kip Ward, lost a star for excessive spending and abuse of the JFTR. Probably wouldn't have happened years ago.

I'm not saying he didn't deserve punishment. I just have a grudge against chicks in the military.

No, the railroaded part is that he was initially charged with rape and forcible sodomy, but those charges couldn't withstand the light of day. He was definitely wrong (as she was his EA), but a two-rank downgrade is rare. The 1-star in charge of Abu Gharib was only busted down to Colonel.

How is it the commander in chief can have an affair with one of his subordinates and nothing happens but when someone further down the chain of command does it they get their flopper slammed in the door.
Something about this just doesn't seem right. Both were wrong as hell, don't misread that.
