I mean, were you embarrassed by how our side acted in the months leading up to Obama's inauguration? Because I sure as well was.

Between the birther shite, the overt racism, the fear-mongering, etc. it was tough to watch.

I imagine plenty of level headed democrats are ashamed of what's been happening.

I'm not a lib/prog, but I am a registered Pennsylvania Democrat. I live in the Pittsburgh area, which is painfully trying to reinvent itself after seeing the steel industry decline and watching environmental regulations rip apart the coal industry. There are some tech jobs here, but this area still has a long way to go.

I grew up in a very small town in south Louisiana, and my parents were probably pretty liberal relative to everyone else in that area (but still very conservative by most measures). Even though they have advanced degrees and white collar careers, most people in that town with jobs work either at one of the industrial facilities about an hour or so away or in agriculture. Most of my friend's parents were cops, secretaries, welders, mechanics, etc.

As most of you can probably tell from my post history, I did vote for Trump and I'm going to celebrate the end of Obama's reign tomorrow.

They way I see it is that Democrats used to pride themselves on attracting the working class. They welcomed people with unique world views and at least paid lip service to people who valued freedom of speech, civil rights, etc. Not long ago, it was the right wing nut jobs that were acting very irresponsibly. Until recently, the GOP was the old fat cat party that seemed completely incapable of changing.

Today modern Democrats seem to to just be the party of bitter wannabe totalitarians that don't actually think the concerns of middle America are worth caring about. A faction of modern progressives actually pretend to be offended by people whose world view differs from their own in an effort to silence dissenting opinions. The wing of the party that actually influences strategy and platform does not seem to give a shite about middle America anymore. I'm not 100% sure when the switch occurred, but it definitely became very obvious in the past 5-6 years.

Some of them, including the actual Democratic presidential candidate, ridicule the type of people I grew up with or the type of people that live around me today. It's as if by by going to work every day and doing exactly what they are supposed to do, they became worthy of ridicule. It became socially unacceptable for those people to voice their concerns despite being openly branded as 'deplorable', among other ridiculous things.

I'm sure some modern progressives don't mind open media bias, civil unrest, wild conspiracy theories, ridiculous protests, and violent outbursts in response to a republican president. Some of them actually are capable of understanding what happened in this election and they do recognize that that these temper tantrums are just providing more damage to their brand and hurting their cause. Most of those types aren't posting here, but they exist. I know a lot of them....and they are embarrassed by what's happening right now.

They are disappointed with the election results and some decided throw things at people they've never met but who don't agree with them politically.

It's actually fairly tame compared to some of the reactions to various Grand Jury findings on police shootings during the 2012 and 2016 election/protest season.

I know for a fact I'm not embarrassing anyone of consequence on the right.

FYI, The left isn't embarrassing me, the right. They are entertaining the hell out of me.
