From what I observe, the smugness, mockery, and complete lack of empathy for rural areas and middle America on the part of liberals took off like a rocket with the advent of these late night political comedy shows.

Why would they personally give a shite if they were? They are making a ton of money so it's not like they would quit. Not at least until they start losing viewers/money which I REALLY don't see happening during a Trump administration

Same thing happened when Rush and the others became too cocky and lost their way. You can't lead the nation with put downs and cynical jokes.

yes, all of the protests and temper tantrums reflect the myopic view of the Dem party and contribute to the overall disdain of working Americans towards their one dimensional candidates

I think a lot of Democrats are looking at the way their party is acting and realizing how radical it has become. A couple of dixiecrat friends were telling me this recently.

I'd say Bill Maher and Jon Stewart probably aren't hurting the Democrats, but that's because they're both funny.

Maher also rips liberals on being too uptight and sensitive.

Maher for his faults actually tries to have an actual civilized debate and is anti PC/bullshite.

The rest are absolute hacks and are one the reasons president Trump got elected.

I always considered Maher a contrarian rather than liberal or conservative. He jabs at the powerful.

Second half of Sam Harris' podcast nails this beautifully today. Harris can't stand Trump (Neither can I) so if hearing him bash Trump will trigger anyone here, just ignore this post. But for those of you with thicker skins who are waiting to hear someone on what used to be the left call a spade a spade here, he's your man.

Start at the 12:50 point. Well worth the listen...

Their audiences are small/niche

Colbert on network would already be packing had they not paid him so much

Stewart wasn't as nuts as these people

Oliver does well but he's not a ratings giant and it Doesn't hurt to have some big shows leading you in and his show is once a week which is smart

Maher has a niche and does well and regardless of what I think of him isn't bat shite crazy,
Emotionally retarded and he's not towing a line. That's who he is. I think if he mixed up his panels and ditched the audience his show would be even better. No doubt about it, he does a good show.

Samantha Bee is a nobody but turner will keep anything on the air. It's really amazing.

Noah...now that it's over they'll be handing him his walking papers soon

Colbert and Noah won't be doing their show 2 years from now. Believe that.

That shite played well during the Bush Administration but naturally evolved from there into this overly smug, elitist monstrosity. People hate getting preached at, no matter what side of the aisle it's coming from.

I'm not sure that vilifying white working class voters will help democrats in the future but they sure are all in on that.

I want to kick Samantha Bee right in the throat. That Canadian gas-bag has no place on TV. Also, she looks worn the frick out for 47. Yes, this belittling of the republicans is what the silent majority has grown tired of.
