Any one up in here old enough to remember ACID RAIN?

And how it was gonna destroy the planet? That had to be 40 years ago and the planet is still here.

I vaguely remember it being discussed, but do not remember the "cause".

Yes I remember acid rain and the banning of DDT sprayed by the cool mosquito trucks I used to see playing in the neighborhood. (and we wonder why we have the west nile virus)

Did you ever think you would live to see the day that you paid for water in a bottle?

The cause was SOX and NOX. Sulfur oxide and Nitrous oxide blown into the air by human activity.

Hey, I knew I had it made when I didn't have to drink water out of the garden hose any more.

I remember. I don't think the issue has ever gone away. The control of NOx and SOx is a real issue. NOx and SOx turn into nitric and sulfuric acid which is not good for plants and building facades. Acid rain is real chemistry/physics. You don't need statistics to prove up acid rain unlike global warming.

That water was never that good was it but it did the trick of quenching thirst.

Remember these were banned because they hit a kid in the temple and killed them?

I remember that. I think Captain Planet saved us, but now people are attacking the climate for money, so he may need to wake his gay arse the frick up.

I'm not questioning your knowledge on the subject, but why is it not an issue today compared to 30-40 years ago?

Multiple governments, including the US, passed laws to reduce NOx and SOx emissions. Guess what the emissions have done (increased or decreased).

Seeing that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I say increased.

I'll let Zach answer. When he gets done googling how the result was not actually the result of human activity, he'll tell you.

Acid rain is no longer a problem because we outsourced our manufacturing sector to Asia. Let them deal with it problem solved!

Is that your final answer?

A lot of plants prefer a more acidic water and soil ph. But that's sort of irrelevant to this discussion.

Yes, I remember the acid rain scare.

Acid rain was no more real than Prince's purple rain, global warming and climate change

Just like the :GASP: lead paint on my baby crib that killed me.

There's been a lot of regulations re: emissions from industrial smokestacks since those days. There aren't near as many today as there once was.

It's not irrelevant. Those plants would thrive at the expense of other species, and the results could be hard to predict and/or hard to live with.

I don't remember the balls but I do remember the pop rock ban. Also the ban on lawn darts.
