oh global warming, it is so overblown by the left, sure some deny it but the left blow it out of proportion for their own political gain.

Just interesting how people blame the other sides for the same thing.

It's interesting that every issue has transcending issues that override what the left and right argue about, if these things were focused on it would make everything that's talked about irrelevant because a correction upstream changes everything about what's happening downstream.

And the right ignore that we're abusing the planet because it's easier to do business and make money when you can treat the planet like a whore.

The earth trashes itself much more than what humans do. Volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, droughts, ice ages, forest fires, tornadoes...

Oh frick me.....

You do realize that just because someone has mercury within it, it doesn't mean it is inherently toxic.

That isn't how chemistry works.

Im more on the fence on this topic....but the fact remains while while nuclear waste is a problem, relatively very very little of it is produced.

Enough to make it easily possible to store it indefinitely even if nuclear power is used on the continental scale.

volcanic eruptions (co2 release) and things like limestone formation (c02 sequestering) are natural cycles that have for eons reached some form of a balance. there are variations from this from time to time and they can be quite catastrophic.

the removal of carbon from deep earth and combustion/release of it (at continuously rising amounts for over 100 years) has most certainly increased ppm in our atmosphere. i'll assume most people by now understand how scientists know this - but the most commonly cited example is probably analysis of trapped gas in ice cores.

coupled with the immense release of stored solar energy (in the form of fossil fuel combustion) is considerable deforestation around the planet. earth has a large buffering capacity for co2 changes, but co2 is no doubt changing and there is no reason i see to take this lightly or brush it off as so many seem to be inclined to do.

i focus in on global atmospheric changes because its been my experience that democrats and conservatives are much easier to agree on other environmental problems (ex: water pollution, conservation of endangered species, etc).

Are you actually asleep when you post? That would actually make sense. But thanks for providing an example for the OP.

It was in response to us treating the earth like a whore as if it's in steady state without human intervention.

There is no known planet in the universe that is in as steady of a state as Planet Earth, and it has been so for Billions of years. It's kept itself together for billions of years and that's a beautiful thing.

I wouldn't think Mars, Mercury or Pluto would have changed greatly over time. Nonetheless, nothing we have done threatens the total existence of life on this planet anymore than what natural disasters have performed.

Rachel Carson's book "Silent Spring" was shown to be full of flawed science. Many environment groups believe that their promotion of said "science" resulted in the movement's first major victory, the banning of DDT.
quote:

The legacy of Rachel Carson is that tens of millions of human lives – mostly children in poor, tropical countries – have been traded for the possibility of slightly improved fertility in raptors. This remains one of the monumental human tragedies of the last century.

I think the anti-vaccine crowd spans both sides.

On the far left you have the celebrity moms (Jenny McCarthy, Kristin Cavallari).

On the far right you have the "big pharma" conspiracy kooks with a dose of the extreme faith-healing crowd thrown in.

Not as bad as anti-nuclear. In fact, it is the solution to global warming and it's being marginalized by left.
