Programme for International Student Assessment for 15 year olds is done globally every year for the three aforementioned categories, and Singapore was #1 in all three.

US ranking: Reading 8th, Math 34th actually below the world wide average, Science 16th.

Truly disgusting given the amount of money wasted on public education.

I wonder what our scores would be without teachers taking the tests in some districts.

Money can only go so far. Western culture is a big impediment to being the smartest. It's just not that much of a priority in Western culture as it is in civilized Eastern cultures.

Yes, we've let the "anti-testing" wing take over our education system. Well, unless you are testing for wokeness, in which case they are all for it.

Median gross household income in Singapore in 2023 tracks just below $90,000 per capita. Plus their laws were set up with public education in mind first. It's also not a welfare state. Indirectly by law you have to pull your own weight. Can you imagine...

US still has top performers and opportunity for those who want it above any other country on the planet.

Bull shite it isnt.

The difference is the eastern culture forfeits any other form of enjoyment that distracts from success in every facet of life. Those people/students are miserable.

Is this the part where we pretend that biology isn't real and that test results for various groups don't line up nicely with the average IQ of each group?

I'm sure Baltimore is doing their part to bring those numbers down!

It's really doesn't make sense to compare students that are extremely diverse to those who are not from a culture that uniformly values education.

I am a great admirer of Singapore. They have a free market economy but also come down hard on criminals and don’t put up with any foolishness.

I wonder how they average that out? I wonder how my children, who are private school students, would look against the US average? My daughter fared really well on whatever standardized test she took a few years ago. Or, I wonder how my children would fare against Singapore's scores? My daughters aren't 15 yet, but I do wonder. I don't care about any other kids in the US.

Seems like we have this thread every year. They're not testing the average 15 year old like we do in the U.S.

That's because an A- or lower on any pop quiz for any subject results in 2 years hard labor at the camps

We would do well to implement a similar policy here but won't because of muh feelings
