I really don't know what it would look like. For those who think we should have stayed until it was won, I'm open to hearing how this would have been accomplished. In my mind, the only path to peace is for Iraq to be partitioned into 3 states.

I would love to hear what others have to say about this. What would have to have happened for the US to say that its venture into Iraq was a success?

Success is never having to go back. Kurdistan is the interesting area. Until recently I thought no way turkey would allow it to exist. Now it looks like turkey wants erbil as a trading partner. Will Iran allow Kurdistan to keep Kirkuk?

once we get the collective populations to adopt western culture, this will be easy peasy

you can't win a war against a "group". if you're not declaring war against a country, then you're pretty much gonna fight til eternity. groups are all over the world

It would take 2 generations but you take the children and convert them to Christianity.

A large well armed Christian nation in that spot would make a nice anvil for Israel to hammer Muslims upon.

U.S. won't do that though. Too expensive and not secular, plus we only think short term.

When was the last time western Christians actually fought to establish a Christian area?

Good thread.
I'm not sure an american "victory" is possible at this point- at least based off what we know now.(don't really know what the true purpose was originally).

I think best we can do is minimize what we lose.

Establishing the New World I guess.

It's been out of favor a long time.

Christian is really only one example. You could pick from several that don't have conquer and kill as its core tennant.

If you turned Iraq into a Sikh nation that would be good too.

We need to break the perpetual brain-washing that occurs at an early age that has been going on for 1,000s of years.

Find a way for long-term stabilization.

If Bush's model of governance was becoming apparently unworkable, then, work out something else, such as the three-state solution you mention.

IMHO, in order to leave a stable region, the USA should have tried the three state solution, if other options failed.

But regardless, it's clearly evident now that Obama's withdrawal was precipitous and unwise, given the fact that the USA is fighting there today and for the foreseeable future.

How would this be accomplished? I can't imagine the hundreds of problems that this action would spawn. You don't win hearts & minds by telling a whole country that their religion is crap, followed by "here try our's out".

Sounds like something a terrorist would propose.
Why don't we just be honest and say we needed up when we tried to party world police over there?
Should of left them alone.

Should've turned it and Afghanistan into a parking lot.
