From my vantage point, it is not that there is no crappy infrastructure. It's the fact that the federal government wastes a lot of the money used for "infrastructure". There are roads all over this country that are way over designed, which wastes the money that could be spent in places like Baton Rouge.

Our roads are awesome compared to anything in Europe.

And they need to be rehabbed.

Report has nothing to do with water quality.

Read the report.

I guess no one is thread lives in baton rouge since everyone thinks our infrastructure is just fine and this is a scam by the feds for more money.

Well our drinking water is some of the best in the nation. However, government over-regulation may put an end to that. They are fighting to add more chlorine in the water for fear of lawsuits due to "brain amoebas".

Hmm... a group of construction workers and engineers think our infrastructure needs improvement...nope, no conflict of interests there

They're right, but think about it, would a civil contractor or engineer ever say that our infrastructure is perfect and needs no improvements? If that were the case, they'd all be out of a job.

I'm not an expert here, but I thought government not regulating industry from using water from the aquifers was the problem that is leading to salt-intrusion in BR's water?

I am only ok with this plan if it involves high paying union jobs. The unions must collect their dues and then funnel a goodly portion of those tax payer dollars back to the democrat party. That's the only way I'll support this massive infrastructure overhaul.

So, in the state of Louisiana, we can only use Private firms instead of state DOTD to do these projects?

Our shitty infrastructure and wasted cities are proof that our priorities are fricked and that we are spending too fricking much on useless shite like national defense.

This is true.

Also, by reading the responses in this thread, I've realized that pretty much everybody in this thread has no clue what the DOTD does and how the fed gov works when it comes to transportation projects.

Their hands are literally never in the projects. The state pitches a project to them, and they decide whether or not they want to fund it. The fed doesn't send a crew in. They don't take it over. They just give the money.

It is up to the state to use the money appropriately.

Private firms are worse than the govt when it comes to going over budget, or going over the time expected. But what do you expect when it goes to the lowest bidder?

This is why we pay Gas Taxes. Most of you probably have no idea every gallon you pump is dumping more cash into uncle Sam. I understand that Uncle Sam needs more as usual.
