Because the republican bill would allow people to purchase bare bones, minimal coverage.

As someone who goes to the doctor maybe once every few years, this is something I want. I want it for emergencies and unexpected events. I don't need balls to the walls coverage

If those are the codes doctors are now required to enter into a standardized patient reporting system, they caused my oncologist to early retire.
The AMA rakes in >$75million/year in license fees, usage charges, and instruction book royalties. Preservation of ICD/CPT coding is nearly the AMA's sole interest in pursuit of government policy.

In the end, it's always about the money. FOR THE CHIRRUNS! is the excuse to legitimize their greed.

Can someone list the reputable organizations that have come out in favor of the bill?

I am now confused. I have been hearing it is a bad bill. But if the AMA, a legitimized cartel disapproves, I shall have to re-evaluate my opinion.

Prima facie, if the AMA is for it, I'm against it.

Organizations based on professions like the AMA tend to be left leaning and operate much like a union with no regard for the varying views of their individual members.

These associations are largely political and mostly leftist.

Go to the AMA home page and check it out. It will tell you all that you need to know.

The GOP bill should be amended to cease use of AMA CPT/ICD codes immediately.

I know they are onerous, even worse since ICD-10 were implemented, but how the hell do you roll that back without a total cluster on getting reimbursed?

ETA - hospital computer systems are tied to CPT/ICD codes to kick out medical necessity stuff. I worked in that some years ago. That is not an easy roll back to accomplish.

Thank you. I've heard doctors say they don't feel the AMA advocates for them but I don't think they completely discredit their findings either.

There are over 1 million physicians in the US.
About 150 thousand are interns, residents, or fellows in training (virtually all of them are enrolled in by there programs in the AMA during their training).
Total AMA membership is about 220K.
IOW only about 70K or 8% of physicians not having their AMA membership given to them, actually join.
quote:

Most Americans hold onto the belief that the AMA represents most, if not all, U.S. doctors. This was close to the truth in the early 1950s, when the AMA represented about 75 percent of all U.S. physicians. But membership has steadily declined every year since then, to about 14 percent of full-time practicing physicians today. The AMA’s leaders have been unable to staunch this bloodletting; despite giving away 8,577 free memberships to graduating medical students in 2007, membership decreased by 2 percent again in 2008.

Where did the AMA go astray on the path of representing physicians?
1. Perhaps the biggest example of how doctors lost their trust in the AMA is the way they are funded. With less than 20% of US doctors paying membership dues, it is apparent they secure funding from other sources. One of their biggest streams or revenue is their profits from selling billing coding, insurance, and other products. Most doctors disagree with the CPT-10 billing transformation. Yet, the AMA continues to profit hugely from selling these products despite our protests. Clearly, doctors’ opinions have been shoved under foot in their quest to drive profits.

You mean repealing a law that levied a tax on "the rich" results in a tax cut for "the rich". You don't say!

I just want a plan that doesn't require I come out of pocket 20 plus grand before I get a benefit. Because when you add together my premiums and my deductible, that is where I am. Sounds to me like I don't want a tax cut...but a plan (contract) with the insurance company that makes more sense.
