The GOP dug up a report from the early 80's when he was an oncologist and the Huntsville Hospital stripped him of his admitting privileges due to what they deemed poor care.

He opened his own cancer treatment center (after asking Huntsville Hospital to expand their oncology dept - they said no) so he opened his own - and became Huntsville Hospital's competition. Huntsville Hospital subsequently filed a lawsuit. Huntsville Hospital lawyers found some patients that could have received different treatment (as would be the case with any doctor)...and pretended like it was malpractice....they used this as an excuse to took away his admitting privileges...It was complete bull shite. It was nothing more than character assassination. It was all about him becoming their competitor.

He is a good man, and would make an outstanding governor.

I enjoyed Leland Whaley's show. Their show parodies were funny (Bubba's and Brutha's BBQ was hilarious!) and I liked his insiders input on politics.

Thanks. I'd never heard the actual story and was hoping the host of yesterday's show would allow Griffith to explain, but he just kept cutting him off. The host took the report as gospel and didn't even want to hear Griffith's side. Griffith said at one point he had admitting privileges at 10 different hospitals and Huntsville Hospital was the only one that took them away, but the host just ignored him.

If I'm not mistaken, his son played basketball for LSU toward the end of the Dale Brown era.

I think I have more problems with the radio host revealing a private conversation than the Democratic whi has ZERO SHOT at becoming Alabama governor.

What?!?

It's the media's job to tell us things. Off the record should be the exception and only used to acquire hard to get info or protect a source. I expect the media to tell me everything they see and hear from candidates. Just because the media hasn't done their job well in a long time doesn't mean their job should change.

Could you provide the report?

I'm guessing you could not only not provide the report, but you also did not read it.

If you like Griffith it is damning as hell, so I'm not surprised in:

1. You will not link it.
2. The media in AL will not report it because it is, "Damning as hell to a D candidate."

God I love this state.

I'm not Bentley's biggest fan, but I thank God that he's our governor rather than some of the crazies that we could easily have. (Roy Moore)

After listening to that interview, it sounds like Griffith got it about right. The host was an idiot.

Yes, he was a little used backup point guard, I believe in the late 80s. Not sure he stayed for four years, may have transferred to UAB or Samford.

I don't expect much from politicians, but I demand entertainment. The world is little more colorful when you have a guy like Shorty Price running for Gov.

I haven't read it, but have read a few rebuttals from Griffith's colleagues in his defense. Here's one of them.

LINK

I'm not going to defend Griffith because I don't know enough about him to do that. I will absolutely not vote for Bentley, but undecided on Griffith. That said, I think this report is immaterial to his campaign, and given that the report was sealed by court order, it's pretty despicable it's being used against him. Not even sure why it is being used against him in this campaign since he has virtually no shot of winning, but that's where we are with the GOP in this state. A bunch of thugs in suits and ties.

Just curious why people hate Bentley so much. I think he's done an admirable job considering the shitshow our legislature is.

My main issues with Bentley:

1. Refusal to expand Medicaid. This one probably wouldn't bother me as much if he wasn't a former doctor. Denying health insurance to thousands of people for political reasons when you're a doctor is unconscionable to me.

2. Terrible job growth, an issue he ran on.

3. Failure to broker a pay raise for teachers, something else he ran on. Granted, the bill he championed died in the legislature, but it just demonstrates his lack of power over Hubbard and Marsh to get his agenda across.

4. This one is more a personal one, but I'll never forget the way he went on the radio the morning after the bill for the accountability school tax credit passed and gloated about how they'd used dirty politics to pass it. It was unbecoming of a governor, and rather immature, especially considering there is questions on whether its passing was even legal.

I honestly can't think of one good thing he's done while in office.

There are some fair criticisms for Bentley, but in the end the Governor's position doesn't hold the power that it does in other states.

I have a pretty low bar for my expectations for Governor. They are a success to me long as they don't get convicted, go on pointless social crusades that make our state look bad, and act like they've lived outside of North Alabama once in their life.

True, and the bigger problem is definitely the legislature. Bentley just has no backbone to stand up to Hubbard and Marsh, so they walk all over him. I am leaning towards voting for Griffith, knowing he won't win. Voters need to do something to break up the super majority, and the governor's office is the most likely to have that happen. I don't see either house of the legislature flipping anytime soon, especially with all the dysfunction within the Democratic party.
