agreed. but if pressed to a point of at least logical consistency it's still not a legit place of compromise. the unemotional just won't be pressed.

What is magical about breathing room air that suddenly imparts the protection of the law - that this person did not have mere moments before?

This is what I've always wondered as well.

A baby born pre-maturely has a right to life under protection of the law, but a baby that is past the typical 9 month due date (and unborn) has absolutely no rights under the law.

One side fights for the rights of the woman and the other for the rights of the baby. One of those two individuals' right to life is infringing on the other's.

I would love to hear a woman's point of view here. Are there any women on the Poli Board ever?

I think a baby achieves self awareness at about 18 months. Until then it is just tissue. A mother should have 18 months after birth to decide if she wants to keep the baby.

really?

what about this entity fundamentally changed at the moment of birth to make it something entirely new?

it has a couple centimeter of muscle and tissue wrapped around it, but other than that it looks exactly like this "baby" you speak of

Abortion Question For Those In Favor...
I like the puppy idea. and it's an unborn ftus, not a baby till its born but you all knew this. This is one argument that will never be settled among people.

That's because people like you refuse to acknowledge the fact A is A.

There will always be people who would rather deceive themselves than face an uncomfortable truth.

My personal opinion is viability. After that point, it, in theory, no longer needs the mother to survive.

And I tend to get a perturbed when I read things like women shouldn't be allowed to vote, drive, etc. And, I would venture a guess, they are not actually kidding.

hey Rob

I think that is fair.

Question since you are here, would it be murder for someone to purposefully take a spouse or child off of life support without court order or statutory authority, since that person is nonviable without the machine?**

**If there is no directive in place by the person on the machine one way or the other

I am 100% against the supreme court writing or re writing the laws.

They shouldn't, but then again neither should men.

No. I think if the person is non-viable, why are you using time, money, and other resources when they could possibly be better used elsewhere.

And the government needs to stay out of such personal decisions.

The abortion debate should not even be a debate. The fact that it is, is just another example of how depraved this society and secular progressives have become. People want to do whatever they want without taking responsibility for the consequences.

It's real simple: is abortion killing human life? Are you killing a human heartbeat? If the answer is yes (and it is) then abortion is evil. There is no debate. It's not a woman's right to kill a human life inside the womb anymore than it is outside.

We've gone so far astray in this country. We've all but done away with God. Well guess what? When you do away with God someone has to take his place. So that's what we've done. Now there is no transcendent absolute truth. We make our own rules.

So we give women the "right" to choose whether to let a life live or kill it. It's mind blowing. It's evil.

I've never understood why some people can't see that abortion could actually be the responsible choice. It may not be responsible for you, but why does that make it irresponsible for all?

Way to add nothing to the discussion.

22-24 week range...it's the point where you begin to reach 50% viability...and 5 months is more than enough time to decide.
