Good response from the President Young. Couldn't have handled this better.

quote:

In recent days, there has been a significant outpouring of concern by members of the Aggie community and beyond regarding an individual scheduled to speak on campus next week. Students, faculty, staff, former students and members of the community expressed their outrage over the speaker's previously-expressed views and have roundly condemned everything for which he seems to stand.

quote:

regarding the essence of an academic enterprise such as ours - especially a state institution governed not only by our core academic principles but also by the U.S. Constitution - private citizens have a right to free speech on and off this campus.

quote:

Outrage and indignation are emotions understandably running high; I share these sentiments. At the same time, I am also truly heartened by the clear message that the Aggie community is sending in reaction to this intrusion – the firm resolve to speak up in opposition to these views, the resounding affirmation that they do not represent the Aggie values we espouse and to which we aspire, and the call to action to reject these views.

quote:

For my part, I will not be at the speech. Rather, I am pleased to report that the campus is planning its own gathering that same evening on December 6th from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at Kyle Field, which I plan to attend. The event, which is being called "Aggies United," will be open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the Bryan/College Station community. The Aggies United event will be an opportunity for those who want to add their name to a large wall expressing their commitment to unity to do so. We will announce entertainment, speakers and other details in the coming days and ask you to mark your calendars for December 6th from 6:00-9:00 PM at Kyle Field. Afterwards, those of you who are able to join us can walk together to Academic Plaza for that tradition we hold dear – Silver Taps – held on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 PM. Take heart in our university. Along with all of you, our commitment to core values is unwavering and we are strong!

frick your and every Aggie's feelings.

Grow up.

If you don't like what someone says, don't listen to it.

Anyone who becomes distraught over a speaker is a disgrace to our society and species.

They are too weak and should be disregarded outright.

Embarrassing. These children (students, faculty, etc.) should be ashamed.

That is all that should have been said.

Richard Spencer is a homo. He will fit in great at TAMU.

Ya know, I hate the whole special snowflake mentality on a lot of campuses but, I really don't have a problem with what they are doing here.

They're not inviting in grief counselors and claiming to be incapable of functioning in the face of this horrible offense.

More importantly, at least those attending this other event aren't going to Spencer's event to try to disrupt it to the point of basically killing it.

Instead, they're just getting together to voice their view that he is wrong and put forward what they believe to be a better view.

I wish ALL college kids would take that approach to speech they don't like.

Thank you! I don't understand why college students and faculty feel the need to protest speakers.

Inviting speakers that challenge and hold unique viewpoints should be welcomed and accepted by students and academics, but most students today are too ignorant to open their minds to process and think about opposing viewpoints.

Of course, we don't have this problem on my college campus because the university only invites left-wing activists to speak at our university forum.

Not a reply to your post, just a general question..

Does LSU still have free speech alley by the union?

Spencer's speech would be far more interesting than some bullshite kumbaya that will inevitably be hijacked by SJWs parroting the same shite we've heard nonstop for the past 5 years

Follow up questions..

Are there still evangelicals promising hellfire and damnation to homosexuals?

If so, how does the safe space crowd handle this?

I thought this was good too. It wasn't a sniveling response to the SJWs, it upheld Spencer's right to free speech and it presented an alternative. Solid approach.

That is not a good response that is pandering. If someone has a different view from yours either do not listen or listen and engage in dialogue. The best response from the President of the University would have been none at all. Striving for a higher education should require an adult with an open mind not a bunch of kids who have been indoctrinated to lose their shite every time someone with a differing view speaks.

What an embarrassing response.

If I were a student, I'd attend and see what he has to say.

Don't know who Richard Sherman is, but this has to be the first time in recorded history so many Aggies were opposed to Dick on campus.
